Some Cyberpunk 2077 have taken to social media to express everything from "hate" to "disappointment" with the 2.0 version of the game. The Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0 originally released on September 21.

The patch notes attached to the latest version of CD Projekt Red's hit RPG number hundreds of items. And though the list of major changes in Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0 is naturally much smaller, the things that it does include alter the game on quite a fundamental level.

While thousands of fans have already praised the 2.0 update in the days following its release, it would appear that a vocal portion of the Cyberpunk 2077 player base isn't happy with how the patch turned out. The game's two most populous subreddits have so far spawned a number of threads criticizing various aspects of the update with varying degrees of severity. All of those discussions have extremely low upvote-to-comment ratios, which is usually indicative of highly controversial topics on Reddit. As for their contents, a lot of the people chiming in on the discourse have apparently taken issue with the fact that some straightforward builds like a pure Netrunner have now been significantly nerfed, taking away from the power fantasy that they seek from single-player RPGs.

Meanwhile, others criticized the new Perk system as being too combat-oriented, arguing that it turns Cyberpunk 2077 into an action game with extra steps, especially when paired with the more aggressive enemy scaling that the 2.0 update introduced. Others still took aim at the police system revamp, positing that this aspect of the game remains rather rudimentary relative to CDPR's promises, not least because they found that losing NCPD officers on foot remains trivial even after hitting the maximum wanted level. Some such criticism was also directed at the widely reported phenomenon of Cyberpunk 2077 players being attacked by cops teamed up with criminals.

Beyond that, a number of players have also bemoaned the fact that even those who love the new update will find their old characters crippled compared to those they could build by starting a new playthrough. That's primarily because the 2.0 version of Cyberpunk 2077 introduces Cyberware Capacity Shards, items that help V withstand more tech as part of the newly revamped Cyberware system. Since the shards only appear as random drops, making the most of this mechanic is only possible by starting fresh, something not all players are willing to do in such a content-filled game.

The negative reactions to the patch still appear to be in the minority, with social media chatter indicating that most fans discussing the game online love the overall attention to detail that went into the making of Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0. Those who preferred update 1.6 can still roll back to an earlier version of the game, at least on PC. However, doing so comes at the expense of not being able to play the newly released Phantom Liberty expansion.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, while its 2.0 update is exclusive to PC and current-gen consoles.
