After years of waiting, Cyberpunk 2077 is now available. It's perhaps the most anticipated single-player game in history, but that doesn't mean it was entirely ready for launch. Cyberpunk 2077 has a variety of issues affecting its performance across, many of which seem likely to take significant time to fix. That isn't stopping CD Projekt Red from doing what it can as fast as possible, though. This Friday CD Projekt Red issued its 1.04 hotfix, a substantial update for PC and PS4 with Xbox to follow.

The biggest changes that Cyberpunk 2077 players across all platforms will see include three key visual fixes. The first is the reduction of vehicle appearance pop-in, which hopefully means vehicles will appear much more quickly rather than suddenly appearing in awkward ways. Second, the transition between first-person perspective and third-person while in a vehicle has been sped up. Third, certain NPCs had problems with various animations during cinematics, which have now been fixed. In other words, a lot of very visible bugs will no longer be seen.

CD Projekt Red's changes aren't all up front like those three fixes, however. Many are quest related, or happen in the background. Over 15 fixes to quests have been made, including the NPC Jackie having "issues" during the Ripperdoc quest, NPC Delamain missing in Epistrophy, and an important conversation with NPC Johnny not triggering after leaving a hotel in the Tapeworm quest. Most of these bugs can only be experienced once, so they'll at least be solved for those experiencing the quests for the first time.

There's also one big change that, despite only being a single note in the hotfix, may be the most important of them all. That note is that Cyberpunk 2077 stability has been improved, including certain big crashes. Players may not recognize the ways that performance has been improved, but hopefully, they still notice overall improvements.

One change that's definitely worth mentioning is in relation to a story that went viral shortly after launch. It was reported that someone with epilepsy reviewing the game had a seizure due to a specific animation related to braindancing. CD Projekt Red says it has modified the flashing effects in this animation, smoothing out the flashes and reducing their frequency and magnitude. This hopefully fixes the issue entirely.

The Cyberpunk 2077 1.04 hotfix is clearly a substantial change to the game, but the likelihood that it makes major improvements to some of the problems players have with the game is low. Quick incremental steps are better than waiting for something bigger and more substantial, though. These things simply take time.
