Releasing last week to a mixed reception, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally here, with a significant number of players taking their first steps into the crime-infested underworld of Night City over the last few days. It seems so many players have taken to the streets of Cyberpunk 2077 that the game has unsurprisingly soared to the top of the sales rankings, with GFK's compiled stats revealing the highly-anticipated new RPG was the best-selling title of the week in the UK's physical retail charts.

The title surpassed a number of other games over the last seven days, including the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Assassin's Creed Valhallaand FIFA 21. According to GamesIndustry.biz, that makes it the second-biggest physical launch in the country this year, taking The Last of Us 2's silver medal and slotting in behind FIFA 21.

With Cyberpunk 2077's lengthy development seeing it garner a lot of hype and fan-engagement over the last seven years, it was almost inevitable that it would be such a raging success. Of course, it's worth taking into account that the charts only factor in physical releases, so it will be intriguing to see where Cyberpunk 2077 lands when its sales are potentially fully revealed by CD Projekt Red at some point in the future. It seems the game will go down as one of the year's biggest financial successes, falling alongside the likes of The Last of Us 2, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and more.

Not all fans are particularly happy with Cyberpunk 2077, however, with the game stirring a fair amount of controversy online due to the state of the build players got to experience on base consoles. While it seems those on PC and next-generation hardware are faring pretty well, base PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the title are said to be a mess, with frequent bugs, poor textures, and a series of other issues.

CD Projekt Red came out today to address the backlash online to the rough state of the ports, admitting that it should've been more transparent about their issues to allow for more informed purchasing decisions from its customer base. Allegedly, the team will be looking to patch the issues ASAP, revealing that the title will be getting new fixes this week and a spate of other improvements over the next two months. For those able to enjoy the game unhindered, it seems as though it's going down a treat, with fans celebrating its immersive world and dystopian sci-fi story.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions currently in development.
