The Tyger Claws was established way back in 2020 who claimed the original Japantown, which is now a sub-district in Westbrook, as their own territory. It was started by a group of Japanese men and the culture's influence on the gang is still very much prevalent today.

The gang originally heavily relied on defensive combat and martial arts instead of utilizing the advantages of cyberwar. They mainly used traditional Japanese weapons and enhanced reflexes.

Around the time Tyger Claws was formed, another Japanese organization was already digging its claws into Night City. This organization is none other than Arasaka.

Arasaka is a group that's not afraid to get its hands dirty for the sake of maintaining its power. When Saburo Arasaka became the company's head, he had the reputation of working with shady groups for the benefit of his company. Tyger Claws was one such group. The gang was financially backed by Arasaka and in exchange, they would ensure Arasaka's influence in Night City.

The Tyger Claws gang has come a long way since its formation in 2020. Starting out just a small defensive combat gang, the Tyger Claws is now known as one of the biggest gangs in Night City.

Aside from being an organized gang with Japanese members, the Tyger Claws and the Yakuza have no immediate connection. However, it is known that both organizations know of and respect each other. Both make an effort to never get into the business of the other.

The Tyger Claws' system and philosophy also seem to be heavily inspired by the Yakuza's. The Night City gang has often used methods originally employed by the Japanese crime network.

4 Rivalry With The Steel Dragons

Word around Night City is that the Tyger Claws seems to have been engaged in a feud with a fellow Japanese gang by the name of Steel Dragons. The Steel Dragons were founded in Tokyo by Yorinobu Arasaka himself. Considering the Tyger Claws' history with Arasaka and Yorinobu's relationship with his family's empire, this gang feud is very interesting indeed.

For a gang to be efficient in a place like Night City, they need to have a steady stream of income coming in and going out. For the Tyger Claws, their source of income comes from their ties with Japantown.

Japantown is one of Night City's leading nightlife districts, an industry this city has no shortage of. The Tyger Claws control a wide portion of this. In fact, the gang owns more businesses in Night City than any other gang. The Tyger Claws also make money from drug manufacturing and distributing, mercenary jobs, prostitution, and human trafficking.
