Cyberpunk 2077 is finally here, and players all around the world are diving into the world of Night City. Despite several reports of glitches and bugs, Cyberpunk 2077 is receiving high praise for its customization and branching storylines.

CD Projekt Red's anticipated title has seen a long road to launch. First announced back in 2012, the infamously delayed game has seen its release pushed back on several occasions. Eager fans clearly had faith in the final product, as Cyberpunk 2077 sold eight million units before it was even out.

The Pickup

As part of the main story, The Pickup begins with fixer Dexter Deshawn telling V about a job involving a valuable biochip. He also says there's some deal clearing-up that needs to be done with the Maelstrom gang. This is because Dexter had paid the more machine-than-man Maelstromers 10,000 Eddies for the Flathead, a stolen prototype combat robot. However, the former gang leader Brick was killed a few days later, with new leader 'Royce' stepping up in the time since.

Players will meet Jackie at the All Foods Gate, where they'll need to head inside and sit on the sofa to speak with Dum Dum. The new gang leader Royce appears once it's mentioned that Brick was already paid for the Flathead. From there, V will have several dialogue options, which all lead to the same interaction. Players will be prompted to do one of two things:

  • [Draw Weapon]
  • [Take down Royce] - Requires six Body points

Shoot or Pay Royce?

The next decision is a big one. The choices V makes next have greatly differing outcomes, and puts multiple lives at stake. The options players will have to pick from next are:

  • [Pay with Militech chip] Militech's on your trail/Money's on this (OPTIONAL)
  • [Shoot Royce] I've had enough.
  • 10,000 Eurodollars [Pay with own money] As we agreed.

Pay With The Militech Chip

Part of an optional objective early in The Pickup, players can elect to call Militech's Meredith Stout shortly after talking to Dexter. After meeting up and passing a lie detector test, players receive the credchip. However, selecting this option with Royce will play out differently depending on if the virus is removed from the chip. If the credchip is virus-free, Royce tells V to take the bot and leave. Hostile Militech guards and mechs then show up in All Foods, where players will follow Dum Dum, taking out the Militech presence as they escape.

If the chip still has Militech malware, The Maelstromers instantly become hostile, and V makes a break for the exit. Before players can escape, however, a boss fight with Royce ensues. Players who manage to defeat Royce will be rewarded with the Chaos Tech Pistol, one of Cyberpunk 2077's many weapons; a Spiked Maelstrom short-sleeve jacket; and Eurodollars.

Shoot Royce

The decision to shoot Royce will kill the newly established gang leader. Doing so will also require players to take out the remaining Maelstromers in the room. The benefit to this is plenty of loot, and is a far easier method to acquire the Chaos Tech Pistol. V can then choose how they escape from All Foods, where Meredith Stout is waiting outside. After speaking with Stout, players get a call from Dexter. V confirms possession of the Flathead, and says they're keeping all of Stout's money.

Pay With Own Money

Players can choose to pay up 10,000 Eurodollars. It's highly unlikely players will have that much at this point in the game, unless they really grind to increase their Eurodollar balance. It doesn't make sense to pay for an already-paid item, but if the timer runs out, Royce will shoot and the player will need to reload to their last checkpoint.

This is just one of the many decisions players will need to make throughout their lifepath choice in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Now that the game is out, the full depth Night City is only beginning to be discovered.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions coming in 2021.
