CD Projekt Red's dystopian sci-fi role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 being delayed from April to September has many anxious fans clamoring for more content. Luckily, Reddit user Detricklez has a solution: Making their own Cyberpunk-inspired city in Media Molecule's robust creation tool Dreams.

Detricklez' first post on Reddit was a face sculpt of a character they built in the soon-to-release Dreams that they would later go on to give "cyberpunk armor." Ever since that went live in the r/PS4Dreams subreddit, Detricklez has made various updates to that character, and since then they've also begun to post progress on an entirely original city they named Altamara.

Most of the posts featuring Altamara have been uploaded to the Dreams-specific subreddit, but on Monday Detricklez also cross-posted a showcase video to the r/PS4 and r/cyberpunkgame subreddits.

Some of their previous posts have focused on showing the depth of the skyscraper-lined city in a cinematic capacity.

Others have taken players down to the street level for an up-close look at all the dingy, neon-illuminated trash bags and other detritus one would expect to see cluttering a post-apocalyptic world.

In one post, Detricklez said they have been working on their Cyberpunk-inspired city for seven months with the expressed intent of testing how much stuff can be jammed into one level without capping out the game's creation-limiting thermometers, commonly referred to as "thermo." It's an interesting challenge given how an entire city is certainly more complex than a delicious plate of breakfast food.

In their post to the r/cyberpunkgame subreddit, Detrickles told an impressed commenter named IronStevie that they currently play with Dreams as a hobby, but have been considering adding depth to characters or even game mechanics for people to play with while exploring Altamara. A recreation of Cyberpunk 2077's mechanics in this style would make an interesting contrast to other fan projects like a PS1 demake of the recently delayed Cyberpunk 2077 by YouTuber Bearly Regal (which coincidentally was also made in Dreams).

The latest project by a development team famous for the LittleBigPlanet series, Dreams has been in various states of beta and early access over the last few years. Yet that hasn't stopped players from using the tool to create some impressive things even before it was given an official February release date during Sony's State of Play last December.

Shawn Layden, the former Head of Sony's Worldwide Studios, has said Dreams "will change game creation as we know it." Based on what Detrickles has made entirely on their own, that certainly doesn't seem farfetched.

Dreams will be released for PlayStation 4 on February 14, 2020.
