After numerous delays, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally out but not in the best of shape. While PC and next-gen consoles versions of the game are still playable, to say the least, the current-gen consoles including the base PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox One S have a staggering amount of issues that make the game, at times, unplayable.

Developer CD Projekt Red didn't allow reviewers to try the game on any of the consoles, limiting every day one review to be based on a PC. This led to a lot of skepticism in regards to the game's performance on consoles, especially the current-gen ones. While CD Projekt Red didn't show any gameplay footage of Cyberpunk 2077 on a base PS4 and Xbox One before launch, it did assure that the game's performance on these consoles is surprisingly good.

As it turns out, that's not the case. Cyberpunk 2077 on these consoles are experiencing a plethora of issues as is being reported by players and critics alike. Kotaku's Ethan Gach reported that the game looks "straight up ugly" on Xbox One. He also mentioned experiencing consistent frame drops, texture pop-in, fuzzy lighting, and reflecting that made Cyberpunk 2077 look like a PS3/360 era game. Stiff facial animation, blurry draw distance, and low density of NPCs, in an otherwise crowded area of the game, has also been reported. It's also important to note that all of these issues have occurred after the game received its day zero console patch that was supposed to make it a "different game," according to CD Projekt Red.

Digital Foundry's Tom Morgan also shared some insight on the game's current status on PS4 and Xbox One. According to him, Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 runs between 720-900p resolution, with frame rate dipping down to 20 in big city areas, sometimes even to 15 FPS. Add to that some bizarre hiccups when a new object or texture has to load. All of these issues make Cyberpunk 2077, in its current state, utterly difficult on current-gen base consoles. Although CD Projekt Red has not addressed these issues specifically at this point in time, it did reassure fans that the team is hard at work on some upcoming fixes and updates for the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 joins the long list of unoptimized AAA launches that have previously welcomed popular titles such as Fallout 76  and Anthem. While fans are optimistic that CDPR will fix most of these annoying game-breaking Cyberpunk 2077 issues in the next few weeks and months, there's no denying the fact that the game isn't currently in the state to provide the best of experience.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with a PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade planned for 2021.
