The production director of Cyberpunk 2077 JÄ™drzej Mróz has decided to part ways with developer CD Projekt Red, leaving a cheery goodbye message on their LinkedIn page. While the open-world sci-fi RPG is one of the studio's latest offerings, which went down as one of the most disastrous releases in gaming history, it's largely The Witcher series that fans know best, with Mróz joining the team for the original game's production.Despite the reception of the sci-fi game starring Keanu Reeves when it first launched at the end of 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has received a number of updates and has been going from strength to strength, with a series of major patches rolling out and some DLC going live very recently. Despite the changes, the reputation of the studio took a beating during the initial release, with the ambitious title being plagued with a litany of bugs, rendering the game almost unplayable especially for those on console.It's unsure why Mróz has decided to leave CD Projekt Red or what they will do next. The news was spotted by Twitter user IdleSloth84 which sources the original post on Mróz's LinkedIn page. The production director for Cyberpunk 2077 simply thanked the studio for having them onboard for the last 15 years, referring to the time as "spectacular." According to a report from VGC, they joined the team back in 2007 when the studio was just branching out into video game development and was due to release the first The Witcher game. Mróz joined the team as a QA specialist at that point before moving up to eventually become production director on Cyberpunk.
At the time of writing, CDPR has yet to comment on the departure or whether the team will hire someone to fill Mróz's position, either internally or externally. In any case, the studio seems to be moving forward regardless. With DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 releasing yesterday, as well as the game's final patch for PS4 and Xbox One rolling out, it seems to be business as usual. There are apparently also more plans to release additional content in the future.
Given its enormous world, slew of side quests, and the new DLC, Cyberpunk 2077 is certainly a game with a lot of replay value. It may have started off as a bit of a broken mess, but the developer has turned things around with a laundry list of bug fixes. The departure of the game's production director means Mróz won't be around for the new The Witcher game, but no doubt CDPR will have someone in mind to help run the project.
