  • Cyberpunk 2077 still has problems and flaws, but CDPR is actively working on fixing them with the upcoming DLC expansion, Phantom Liberty.

  • Phantom Liberty will make significant changes to the game, making it feel completely different and potentially more satisfying to play, and will be accessible as a standalone experience.

Cyberpunk 2077 turned a few heads when the game launched, and not exactly in a good way. The RPG originally launched in such a terrible state performance-wise that as CP 2077 characters walked around the world with invisible weapons due to glitches, players were asking retailers for refunds on the game. Ever since, CD Projekt Red has been releasing patches and small DLC packs to improve the game, and these efforts have made a big difference.

However, Cyberpunk 2077 still has a fair bit of problems and flaws. Fortunately, CDPR isn't done with fixing the problems that plague the game yet, and the upcoming DLC expansion, Phantom Liberty, is planning to come with tons of updates that fix lingering glitches and re-work some of the more lackluster systems that currently exist in CP2077. Many of these changes have been requested by fans, and it's one of the reasons why the Phantom Liberty DLC is so hotly anticipated. Due to this, newer players may want to wait until Phantom Liberty drops to pick up CP2077.

The Upcoming Changes to Cyberpunk 2077 Explained

One of the first complaints that CD Projekt Red has tackled with the upcoming DLC is the armor and clothing system. What once was a system where players' personal expression in dressing their character how they wanted would come second to defensive stats. However, this system will be overhauled, so clothes are completely optional, and cyberware will be the deciding factor for players' armor stats in Cyberpunk 2077, giving players the freedom of how they look back to them. On top of that, risks will be added to cyberware that get worse the more fans visit the Ripperdoc for new parts.

Phantom Liberty will also change the game's current skill trees that will replace the percentage-based skills with abilities and effects that remain active as much as players want. Some of these new skills even make it so players can deflect attacks with their own weapons among other things. Another system players are looking forward to seeing improvements with is how the police work in Night City, among many more.

Why Cyberpunk 2077's Changes with Phantom Liberty Are Worth Waiting For

According to many hands-on impressions with Phantom Liberty, these changes are going to make CP2077 feel completely different compared to what it is now. However, that's not at all a bad thing as many players, even the early adopters despite its issues, hope that Phantom Liberty makes Cyberpunk 2077 feel like it should have in 2020. If this is the case, then there would be no better time for gamers to try CP2077 out following the update.

CD Projekt Red almost encourages players to pick up Cyberpunk after the update as Phantom Liberty is built to be a standalone experience, so the newest save files can easily access Dogtown and begin the DLC's storyline as soon as possible. Not only will players get to experience the spy-thriller adventure of Phantom Liberty, but they'll also get to see everything from the base game's story at their own pace, which could be incredible with the planned improvements.

It's hard to argue between what's currently out on the market and what Cyberpunk 2077 will be in just a couple of months as to when would be the best time to play the game. While the DLC update isn't out yet, so Phantom Liberty could still break a few promises, CD Projekt Red has changed CP 2077 considerably in the last two years and a half to where it's likely that Cyberpunk will be a completely different game in just over one more month. At the very least, if fans don't wish to pay extra for the complete Cyberpunk 2077 package right away, many of the changes to the game will be added in a free update, which means they can feel the adjustments for themselves before deciding whether to purchase the DLC later.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
