CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC has already garnered some impressive sales numbers according to the company's latest report. Following a lackluster launch back in 2020, the developer's efforts at improving the game over the past couple of years appear to have reaped rewards for CDPR. With the launch of the much-anticipated Phantom Liberty DLC, the title's popularity seems to have grown even further.

While bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements have been a regular occurrence since its early days, it wasn't until the Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen update that fans saw significant improvements to overall gameplay. As the game began to regain popularity, the studio went on to ship further updates before officially announcing an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 in December 2022. Now, barely a week after its release, Phantom Liberty is already shaping up to be a big hit for CDPR.

In the company's latest earnings call, CDPR unveiled that Phantom Liberty sold over 3 million copies within its first week of launch. Among these, about 2.04 million (68%) were recorded on PC, followed up by 0.6 million on PS5, and 0.39 million on Xbox Series X/S. The studio mentions that Cyberpunk 2077 overall has sold more than 25 million copies to date with CDPR itself crossing 100 million copies for all of its title releases including The Witcher trilogy. The report also states that Phantom Liberty has incurred a production cost of 275 million PLN (~$62.8 million) and a marketing campaign cost of 95 million PLN (~$21.7 million), as per the company's preliminary data.

Additionally, CDPR offered an update to one of its upcoming titles, Project Orion. Last week, game director Gabe Amatangelo revealed that his team is now shifting focus to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. In the latest earnings call, the company confirmed Project Orion is currently in its conceptualization stage and that it's in development by the CD PROJEKT RED North America studio alongside support from the Polish arm. Interestingly, CDPR also announced a collaboration with Anonymous Content to create a Cyberpunk 2077-based live-action project.

However, it's worth noting that not everything has been perfect for the Polish gaming company. Back in July, the company announced that it was laying off 100 CDPR staff, which is about 9% of its workforce. While the studio still has five projects in active development, it remains to be seen how things pan out for the future of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher. However, if Phantom Liberty's launch is anything to go by, it's that fans can hold out hope for what's to come from CDPR in the coming years.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
