Cyberpunk 2077 is finally available after many years, and while the launch isn't exactly what CD Projekt Red wanted, many are still devoted to seeing the game to its end. As such, it's important to know how many endings are possible and how to unlock them, especially for those trying to get all of the Cyberpunk 2077 achievements.

It should be noted that while spoilers are avoided as much as possible, much of this article may contain minor spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077 that could impact how one receives the ending. Luckily, most of these are not missable, and even after completing the game once, players can load back in and complete the rest.

Updated October 27, 2023 by Erik Petrovich: With the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion comes some major changes to the base game, too. The new content included in Phantom Liberty has an effect on Night City as a whole, and even lets players access a new ending. Most of the base Cyberpunk 2077 endings came after players made a choice at the very end of act 2, leading to the events of the end of Cyberpunk 2077's story. However, Phantom Liberty added one new ending that takes V a wholly different direction. It's the only new ending added by the DLC, unfortunately, but to unlock the Phantom Liberty ending, players need to do more than just beat the DLC story.

Cyberpunk 2077: How Many Endings Are There?

Cyberpunk 2077 Johnny Silverhand Items

In short, there are seven endings that players can unlock in Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC, Phantom Liberty. Each of the basic Cyberpunk 2077 endings has its own achievement that can be unlocked, too.

There's the straightforward main ending, three endings that can only be unlocked after fulfilling certain requirements (and making specific dialogue choices), a bonus "ending" that leaves things unfinished, the secret ending to Cyberpunk 2077, and the ending that can only be unlocked by completing the Phantom Liberty DLC.

Players "choose" which ending they will experience during the "Nocturne Op55N1" mission in a discussion with Johnny Silverhand. Afterward, there are a few missions to complete before reaching the actual, final conclusion to Cyberpunk 2077, but after making their choice, players are locked in to the path they have chosen for themselves.

Be sure to keep a save file just before making a choice at the end of the game to experience all of the endings, and unlock all of the ending-related achievements.

Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Endings

For the four basic endings, players will need to make certain choices in the above conversation, as well as having certain questlines done.

  • The Devil (Default Ending)
    • Select: Think trusting Arasaka's risky but worth it
    • Default ending which has no requirements to unlock.
  • The Star/Temperance
    • Select: Gonna ask Panam for help
    • This dialogue option is only available for those who complete Panam's entire side quest (the same set of quests required to romance Panam in Cyberpunk 2o77).
    • After selecting this option, it bridges out to two more possible endings based on which choice players make during the Alt Cunningham dialogue sequence:
      • "Wanna live our whatever life I got left" (The Star)
      • "Body's Johnny's. I'll go" (Temperance)
  • The Sun
    • Select: Think you and Rogue should go
    • This ending is only available by completing Johnny and Rogue's questline, starting with Tapeworm and ending in Blistering Love.
    • Finding Johnny Silverhand's items overlap some here, and finding them all is helpful but not required.

Cyberpunk 2077 Bonus Ending – Path of Least Resistance

A series of choices in the aforementioned dialogue with Johnny Silverhand can result in a bonus ending, one that doesn't really end much and is more of a choice akin to the secret endings to Far Cry 4 and Far Cry 5. Players will need to select any of the above choices to lock in the ending, which then has to be confirmed to Johnny.

Johnny Silverhand's Porsche 911 II (930) Turbo is a classy car that can be easily missed in CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077. Here is how to get it.

Instead of confirming it, players can choose could also just put all this to rest. Doing so, and following through, immediately brings Cyberpunk 2077 to an end as V tosses their pills away, ending all the unresolved storylines players will inevitably be left thinking about when the credits roll before their time.

Cyberpunk 2077 Secret Ending – Don't Fear The Reaper

Johnny Silverhand from behind

The secret ending requires players to make certain choices and have a certain relationship with Johnny Silverhand. When players choose "think you and Rogue should go," there are a few follow-up choices to confirm. However, instead of doing so, players should wait on this screen for approximately 5 or so minutes. This unlocks the secret ending called Don't Fear the Reaper.

Exact requirements for this ending are still a little hard to determine, but basically, players want the relationship percentage with Johnny Silverhand above 70%. This can be seen in the pause menu as the middle icon.

Furthermore, players must complete all of the Johnny Silverhand and Rogue sidequests, including finding his items and making the "better" choices during the Chippin' In sidequest. Making certain choices there reportedly unlocks the ending itself, but this is of some debate in the Cyberpunk 2077 community. Regardless, for those pursuing this ending, getting that relationship bar up high and completing the aforementioned quests should be a focus in order to unlock this quest.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Ending – The Tower

cyberpunk 2077 phantom liberty endings guide

Unlocking the Phantom Liberty ending for Cyberpunk 2077 isn't as simple as completing the expansion and returning to Hanako at Embers. Players must specifically make decisions that ensure a main character's survival, so that they can be captured.

During the Firestarter quest in Phantom Liberty, players must choose to either help Songbird escape, or help Reed capture Songbird. If players side with Songbird, they will eventually need to hand her over to Reed to unlock the new ending. If players side with Reed, it's a bit simpler – just be sure to "Spare" her when the time comes.

After the expansion comes to a close, and after the Phantom Liberty credits roll, players will eventually be contacted by Reed – after this moment, the new ending plays out, one considered by many to be the a "good" ending, or as good as one can expect in a place like Night City and a life like V's.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
