Cult of the Lamb's upcoming DLC update will give the game a shot of adrenaline that should appeal to Soulslike fans. Cult of the Lamb is a challenging game as is, with fast-paced roguelike gameplay that punishes mistakes harshly, while also tasking the player with managing their own cult when not off on adventures. It's a mix of two genres that are not put together very often, but both are balanced without either clashing with the other, challenging the player's time management more than anything. The Relics of the Old Faith update will add another layer to its difficulty.

In the cute yet creepy Cult of the Lamb, the player takes the role of a lamb who was saved from execution by a shadowy godlike figure. After being granted great supernatural power, the Lamb sets out to fight the four Bishops who oversaw their intended execution, as well as their followers who will hunt down the Lamb in their respective domains. In addition, the Lamb uses their newfound powers to lead a cult of their own, building a community from scratch. The player can design their cult however they like, and choose whether to be a virtuous or villainous leader.

Cult Of The Lamb's DLC Is A Big Gift For Fans Seeking A Challenge

The Lamb from Cult of the Lamb powered up

In Relics of the Old Faith, Cult of the Lamb's upcoming update, a new questline is being added to extend the game's postgame content. At the end of the game's base story, the player defeats The One Who Waits, the entity that gave them their powers in the first place, only to betray them in the final act. With Relics of the Old Faith, the aftermath of this battle will see the player getting a chance to fight revamped versions of the other four Bishops, complete with remixed dungeons and redesigned, more difficult versions of their fights.

In addition to the new campaign, the DLC will add more features that will appeal to those seeking greater challenges beyond earning devotion in Cult of the Lamb. A new boss rush mode will allow players to dive into consecutive boss fights, taking on the game's toughest enemies in a row. Another new addition is a permadeath option, which introduces one of the scariest aspects of roguelikes to the game. At present, Cult of the Lamb punishes death by making the Lamb lose some materials and Faith, both of which can be regained. Losing all progress upon death will force the player to be even more cautious about every move.

Soulsborne fans could already be drawn to Cult of the Lamb's dark themes and tough gameplay. However, those fond of the difficulty of FromSoftware's Soulsborne games will likely enjoy the added challenges that are set to come in Relics of the Old Faith. Both of those titles are punishingly tough, with steep consequences for death, although nothing as brutal as Cult of the Lamb's upcoming permadeath penalty. While Cult of the Lamb is not an exact Soulslike, the tasks of Relics of the Old Faith's new modes certainly have the spirit.

Relics of the Old Faith is set to deliver a lot of new content to Cult of the Lamb, and should extend the game's lifespan by a fair amount. Beating Cult of the Lamb's final boss is a good challenge in its own right, but the postgame campaign of Relics of the Old Faith should be a good challenge for players who still want to test their skills against the best that the game has to offer. Cult of the Lamb may not have a lot in common with the Soulsborne games, but Relics of the Old Faith aims to satisfy fans of that sort of challenge.

Cult of the Lamb is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
