Making use of the CryEngine, developer Crytek is not holding back with Crysis Remastered. Before you think of this as another remaster, know that they are utilizing their latest technology to ensure the game surpasses expectations. They will use sophisticated engineering to make a state of the art game (more on that later).

Crysis is one of our favorite franchises because of how ahead of its time it was. It only took us several years to run the game on maximum settings on our PC rigs. Crysis Remastered is slated for an August 7, 2020 release date, if it's not delayed. Here are five reasons to be hyped (and five to not).

10 It's Crysis (Be Hyped)

Back when Crysis had a critically acclaimed release, it stood out for its extraordinary polish. It was ahead of the curve, as the graphics looked like a tech demo, yet the gameplay was enjoyable. The surreal futuristic setting mashed well with its alien themes. In Crysis, a massive alien structure is discovered on Earth, which is what sets the story in motion. As you could imagine, this remaster is going to be a hot release for current-gen consoles.

9 It's Not A Remake (Don't Be Hyped)

Remakes and remasters make improvements to originals, but there are critical differences between the two. While a remake could rebuild the game from the ground-up, a remaster is a graphical upgrade without gameplay changes. A remastered version might include all the DLC from the original, but it's almost always about graphics.

We've seen groundbreaking remakes like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Resident Evil 2, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. There's more potential for disaster, but when a remake works, it surpasses a quality remaster without question. The upcoming ports are remastering Crysis and not remaking it.

8 The Remaster Is Extensive (Be Hyped)

Before you get your hopes down because Crysis Remastered is a remaster and not a remake, know that it will be an extensive remaster. Crytek is doing a thorough job to make sure the game is up to par with current-gen games. They are using progressive technology like ray tracing and temporal anti-aliasing, which are seldom seen in current games. Sounds reassuring, but will it measure up?

7 Crysis Remastered Doesn't Contain The Sequel Games (Don't Be Hyped)

Despite there being speculation that Crysis Remastered could include Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, it's confirmed that it only features the first Crysis game. As of now, Crytek has no plans to remaster Crysis 2 or Crysis 3. There's no release date for a Crysis sequel, but we won't rule it out.

6 Crytek Is On The Project (Be Hyped)

The development company behind various versions of the CryEngine, Crytek, deserves recognition. The CryEngine is a sophisticated game engine that was used to build games like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Prey.

Crytek created the first Far Cry game, which is now a highly acclaimed series. They're also known for games like The Climb and Ryse: Son of Rome. Their biggest claim to fame, however, has to be for Crysis.

5 It Hasn't Changed Much (Don't Be Hyped)

Unless you're an avid retro gamer, the idea of playing an old game is less appealing. Crysis Remastered isn't going to change the gameplay, or will it attempt to do anything new. The presentation of the game will likely be unchanged. Since the game hasn't changed much, it might not warrant the purchase. With that said, Crysis Remastered is still being developed, and we can't make a definitive decision until its release date.

4 The Original's Graphics Hold Up (Be Hyped)

When the first Crysis game released, it was a jaw-dropping experience because of its graphics, among other reasons. The game does an outstanding job of immersing you in its environments. With a solid foundation, we can only imagine how Crysis Remastered will look. The mind-blowing Crysis Remastered reveal trailer showed very little, but we are already captivated by this first-person shooter game.

3 The Graphics Might Not Measure Up (Don't Be Hyped)

The stark reality is that many remastered games fall below expectations because they are either filled with bugs or don't change enough. A remaster is most often a graphical upgrade, but for complicated reasons, it can wind up looking worse than the original.

It's not very comforting that Crysis Remastered is relying so much on graphics; the graphics might not measure up. As long as its graphics are better than Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, the game should meet expectations.

2 It's Coming To Most Major Platforms (Be Hyped)

The game might not be slated for next-gen consoles PS5 or Xbox Series X, but it is going to be available on most current platforms. Yes, that means Nintendo Switch players won't be left in the cold on this one. Crysis Remastered will also play on consoles such as the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. As of now, it's looking like the game won't be available for Google Stadia at launch.

1 There Will Be No Remastered DLC (Don't Be Hyped)

Just when we fall in love with the idea of this game, we are bombarded with news about how it might be disappointing. We are certainly hyped more than not, but it would've been a nice touch if Crytek included the game's DLC, Warhead. The Warhead standalone expansion is a must-play DLC. Could they add it at a later date? We don't want to rule out anything.
