It's been eight years since the release of Crysis 3, the most recent release in the Crysis franchise. That may be surprising considering the IP was once so well-considered. That doesn't mean that Crytek hasn't been busy, however. In 2020, Crytek rereleased the original Crysis, remastered for modern platforms including the Nintendo Switch. Now it seems Crytek might be taking the next step forward. A series of posts on Twitter are heavily hinting at a Crysis collection being put together.

Crysis fans may recall that one week ago the official game account on Twitter posted an image, sans context. The image was from Crysis 2, though it looked to have a new level of visual shine to it. A week later and the Crysis account has a new image to share. This time, however, it's an image from Crysis 3 rather than Crysis 2. While the new post was again lacking context, the hint that both Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 could be coming back soon was obvious.

Then, to bring the teasers together, one last post was shared on Twitter. This post didn't have an image in it. Rather, it included just a single character. Crytek tweeted "3" and nothing more. Given the sequence of teasers so far, with Crysis Remastered launching in 2020 and the two new teasers showing Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, the hint appears to be for a Crysis collection bringing together the original three games.

The other possibility is that the "3" post is simply referring to Crysis 3 and not to a collection. Crytek could be releasing both Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 individually, rather than as part of a collection. Both games would hopefully be updated for modern platforms, but obviously nothing has been officially confirmed at this point. Exactly what Crytek is planning remains to be revealed. Perhaps Crytek has some surprises for fans yet.

What Crysis fans are hoping for more than anything is that Crysis Remastered's release in 2020 and the announcement of whatever project Crytek is currently teasing is leading up to an even bigger announcement. Specifically, fans would love to have a Crysis 4 announced. That may be a stretch, but Crytek clearly sees life in the Crysis franchise.

As for when Crytek could make an announcement regarding Crysis 2, Crysis 3, or a potential Crysis collection, the mid-year announcement events are coming soon. Summer Game Fest begins on June 10 and E3 2021 starts on June 12. Crytek could also end up announcing what it's working on ahead of June's events. Expect more information soon.

Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 remasters are currently rumored to be in development.
