Critical Role fans are literally seeing red as the actual play stream began a teaser campaign for its current storyline. This transmedia storytelling event is currently unfolding on Twitter, and has Dungeons and Dragons players panicking as they await the next episode of Critical Role.

Now, Critical Role is adding more fuel to the fire. Since the episode aired on Thursday, March 9th, the official Critical Role Twitter account has been posting cryptic in-universe archivist notes pertaining to the twin moons of Exandria. Ruidis, the smaller, crimson moon, is the primary subject of these notes, and the crux of Critical Role’s current campaign arc. Though only two of these notes have been published at press time, players expect to see more in the coming days.

Were that not ominous enough, Critical Role has been gradually changing its logo on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media outlets. Each iteration replaces the tie-dye background of the Critical Role logo with a slowly-eclipsing red, mimicking the celestial event surrounding the red moon Ruidis. Critical Role did not release a statement about it doing this event, counting on the audience to discover the cryptic clues for themselves.

Fans were startled and excited to discover this subtle teaser campaign by Critical Role. The clever marketing campaign has drummed up significant excitement online, with Critical Role and CriticalRoleSpoilers trending on Twitter for several days. Fans have been flooding the internet with fearful and excited speculation on what happened to their favorite Legend of Vox Machina characters, and are eagerly watching Critical Role’s social media to see what it might post leading up to the next episode.

The most recent episode of Critical Role marked the eight-year anniversary of the popular actual play stream, and the 51st episode of the third campaign besides. Unlike Critical Role’s Mighty Nein season, Campaign three has been full of callbacks, cameos, and crossovers involving direct connections to the previous two stories.

Fans who enjoy Dungeons and Dragons actual play streams should consider checking out Dimension 20. The popular Dungeons and Dragons actual play featuring famous CollegeHumor comedians is also approaching the end of its current campaign. With the next Dimension 20 season being run by Matt Mercer, now is the perfect time for Critical Role players to check out the series.
