A Final Fantasy 7 Remake modder has promised a mod replacing Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion's voice acting with the original game's. Reception to the updated version of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 has been resoundingly positive, with nostalgic fans happy to have the game on platforms that aren't the PSP. One topic of controversy has been the redone voice acting, though, with fans torn between the original PSP game's voice work and the remake's updated voices. The original Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 release came in 2007, but it was delayed over half a year before its western release due to the extent of its localization. Despite that, the original version of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 did not have full voice acting. It was just a partial dub, with some dialogue being text-only. Square Enix decided that for the remake, it would redo the voicework and dub the entire game. It would even go so far as to include the voice actors from Final Fantasy 7 Remake who had roles in the prequel.RELATED: Fan Edit Imagines Final Fantasy 7 Remake as a Blockbuster MovieModder Ninjagrime1 has over 30 mods for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, most of which are alternative outfits since the modder also dabbles in 3D art. Ninjagrime1 must be one of the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 fans that enjoyed the game's original audio more than the remake's because they've since announced plans to replace them via an upcoming mod. They say the mod is "100%" being made and may even be finished by Friday, December 23.

Despite the promise, Ninjagrime later confirms that they aren't the modder working on the project. They're only familiar with the ongoing effort. As such, there's no clear way to know when the project will go live or if there's a way to support the mod's creator. Regardless, those hoping for classic Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 voice work should stay attentive for the mod's upcoming release.

It's not entirely clear how the mod will work. Since the full game has been dubbed in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, replacing it would mean some dialogue is left without voice work. Either that, or it would retain a portion of the new audio where there was none before. More complex options, like which audio to choose for which characters, wouldn't be included in this initial mod, but could potentially be added later.

It just goes to show that not every change made for a remake will be in line with what fans want. The new Final Fantasy 7 games are one of the best examples of this. There are a significant number of fans who wish Final Fantasy 7 Remake was just a visually updated version of the original Final Fantasy 7. Having options is good, though, and modders will deliver those updates -- and hopefully won't get DMCA'd by Square Enix in the process.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
