The new location of Neomuna in Destiny 2 Lightfall appears to be filled with Easter eggs and the latest one has players discovering a creepy one involving the dark disciple Nezarec. The Darkness has taken center stage in the main storyline of Destiny 2, involving a character known as The Witness who appears to be terrifyingly powerful. However, the Darkness has been a core concept of the franchise for quite a while, typically relegated to lore or being referenced in various gear pieces.

One such character is Nezarec who has recently been in the spotlight thanks to players tracking down relics holding pieces of the former Witness Disciple during the events of the Season of Plunder. From a lore perspective, Nezarec was said to have led the Black Fleet against humanity during the first Collapse, engaging with the Traveler on the Moon before their Pyramid ship was ultimately stranded beneath the surface. Although Nezarec hasn't been seen in either Destiny game to this point, it seems Bungie may have future plans if the latest Easter egg is any indication.

While exploring the Neptunian city of Neomuna in Destiny 2 Lightfall, a player named iMaximizing heard unintelligible whispers while exploring, which resulted in subtitles appearing. Getting suspicious after hearing the name Nezarec mentioned during the new Vex Strike, iMaximizing decided to equip Nezarec's Whisper, a legendary glaive that was released during the Season of Nightmares. Surprisingly, the whispers manifested into actual dialogue from Nezarec essentially throwing taunts at the player and hinting at bigger things to come.

Nezarec first reveals themselves at the end of the HyperNet Current strike, which seems to trigger the various whispers happening throughout the city. Users also reported that Warlocks wearing Nezarec's Sin also could decipher the whispers as well, but for everyone, it appears running the strike first is the trigger. Regardless, the thread also resulted in a number of jokes regarding the ending moments of Season of Plunder when Nezarec's remains were turned into a drink to wake Osiris out of his coma.

Considering the events of Season of Plunder and now these discovered lines of dialogue, many Destiny 2 players now believe that Nezarec could very well be the upcoming raid boss inside the Root of Nightmares. Not much is known about the raid as of yet, but Bungie has teased that players will be going into a pyramid show to confront an ancient threat that is growing at the players doorstep. Based on this latest discovery and the fact that Root of Nightmares contains an ancient threat, it seems a confrontation is Nezarec is plausible.

Destiny 2 is available now on Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
