The first Creed 3 trailer has officially dropped, promising another promising round in the ring for Michael B. Jordan's Adonis Creed as he faces off against Jonathan Majors.
Creed 3 is the third film in the Creed saga. It follows the son of Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), who passed away in Rocky IV, as he fights his way to the top of the boxing world. It is the ninth film in the Rocky film franchise, which starred Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa and catapulted him to stardom. Creed 3 will be the first film to not feature Stallone as Rocky Balboa, but the character may appear again in later installments.
The first Creed 3 trailer was released by MGM, which opens with a contemplative Adonis stating that the last seven years of his life have been built on the shoulders of three people in his life - Bianca (Tessa Thompson), Rocky, and his father. The trailer then introduces Damian Anderson (Majors, soon to face off against the Avengers), a friend from Adonis' past who has spent the last 18 years in jail. Adonis invites Damian to join him at his gym, and it quickly becomes apparent that something happened between Adonis and Damian in the past.
When Bianca asks what happened, Damian becomes irritated and the Creed 3 trailer reveals that he's become embittered by whatever went down between him and Adonis. As Damian begins to take up boxing and rises in the ranks, he becomes a formidable and dangerous fighter. Bianca tells Adonis that he must fight Damian. The trailer ends by teasing what will likely be one of the best fights in the Rocky franchise.
The relationship between Adonis and Damian will surely be central to the conflict of Creed 3. What exactly occurred all those years ago between the both of them is being kept under wraps, but the trailer seems to imply that it might have been what led to Damian ending up in prison. Damian says that the two were like brothers, while Tony (Wood Harris) tells Adonis he must let go of the guilt he harbors.
Some Creed 3 set photos show a jacked Majors and Jordan ready to duke it out in the ring, and it looks like their fight will be one for the ages. The Creed 3 trailer teases plenty of raw aggression between the two men. If their relationship is salvageable, surely the real test between them will be in the ring.
Creed 3 hits theaters March 3, 2023.
