A couple of weeks ago, a Spanish retailer leaked the existence of a Nintendo Switch version of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, but thanks to the latest Nintendo Direct, we now have an official announcement. Remastered versions of the first three Crash Bandicoot games will make their way to the Nintendo Switch on July 10.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy on Nintendo Switch sounds like it will basically be the same experience as the PS4 version, but with the added benefit of portability. As of now, no additional features or enhancements have been announced, but perhaps amiibo support could come at some point down the line.

Even though the Nintendo Switch version of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was leaked a couple of weeks ago, its announcement is still rather surprising. After all, it will mark the first time the first three Crash Bandicoot games will be available on a non-PlayStation console. For those that grew up in the era of the PS1 and the Nintendo 64, it would be like Super Mario 64 getting a PlayStation 4 port.

While no Nintendo Switch-specific enhancements have been announced just yet for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, that doesn't mean it can't be announced a bit later on. After all, the game is set to release on July 10, meaning that there is plenty of time for Nintendo to host another Nintendo Direct in the meantime, or reveal more details about the game at its E3 2018 press conference in June.

Likewise, there's also plenty of time for Nintendo to announce a possible Crash Bandicoot amiibo. Considering the history of the character and the role the Crash Bandicoot games played in the rivalry between PlayStation and Nintendo, it's safe to say an amiibo of the iconic platforming hero would be an easy sell.

In the meantime, it's possible that another former Sony mascot could also make an appearance on the Nintendo Switch. Rumors point to a Spyro the Dragon remaster later this year, and if it exists, one has to imagine that a Nintendo Switch version of it is in the works as well.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available now for PS4 and will launch for Nintendo Switch on July 10.
