Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time first leaked months ago, but now fans have official confirmation. Activision has confirmed that Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will launch on October 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, serving as a return to the classic platformer franchise's roots.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will feature old-school Crash platforming gameplay, but it will also have some interesting twists on the classic formula to give fans a fresh experience. One way this is being accomplished is through the use of multiple playable characters, with Crash Bandicoot 4 letting fans take control of not just Crash, but his sister Coco as well as Dr. Neo Cortex.

Standard platforming levels in Crash Bandicoot 4 will let players choose whether they want to play through it as Crash or as Coco Bandicoot, but Cortex will have stages built specifically for his character. Whereas Crash and Coco can utilize their abilities from previous Crash Bandicoot platforming games, Cortex comes equipped with a ray gun that can be used to transform enemies into standard or bouncy platforms. It was teased that Cortex's levels will have a bit more strategy than the Crash and Coco stages, so that should go a long way in providing some variety.

It was also teased that Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will have more playable characters than the ones that were shown off in the reveal trailer. However, it's unclear who they will be at the time of this writing. Leaked Crash 4 merchandise shows a new look for Crash's girlfriend Tawna, so maybe she will end up being one of the playable characters in the game. There are a number of classic Crash Bandicoot villains that could be featured as well, though it's also possible that brand new characters will be used instead.

The confirmation of multiple playable characters in Crash Bandicoot 4 confirms some of the leaks about the game, though there was one thing that was proven false. The Crash Bandicoot 4 release date is October 2, not October 9 as previously leaked, though it's unclear why that change was made.

Regardless, Crash Bandicoot fans just have to wait a few months to get their hands on the long-awaited fourth installment in the beloved platforming franchise.
