Last month, it was announced that Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time would be coming to Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, with a PC port slated to debut on Battle.Net following their release. The array of console ports are available right now, with Activision posting a trailer celebrating the game's success and advertising the new versions.
However, the promo is capped off with an announcement concerning Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time's PC release, revealing that the upcoming port will release on Battle.net on March 26. Players can pre-purchase Crash's latest adventure via Blizzard's online storefront right now, where it'll cost $39.99.
Activision's decision to release the game via Battle.net has already been a controversial one with fans, many of which were hoping to see the game on Steam or Epic. This is mostly because games on the service rely on internet connections, with Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time even sporting a disclaimer reading "Internet Connection, Blizzard Battle.net Desktop app, and registration required to play." Regardless, it'll join a significant library of Activision classics available on the storefront, including Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and Diablo 3.Â
For those who never got around to playing the game at release, it sees Crash, Coco, and Aku Aku team-up once again, with the sequel acting as a direct continuation of Naughty Dog's original Crash Bandicoot trilogy that discards the franchise's later entries. The plot sees Neo Cortex and Dr N.Tropy shatter the space-time continuum, forcing Crash and his allies to venture across a myriad of new stages as they attempt to fix it. It was heralded as a return to form for the series, seeing Crash return to his roots through gauntlets of brutally challenging platforming ripped straight from the character's iconic trilogy of games.
The title wasn't exceptionally successful on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One at release, with first-week physical sales down by 80% compared to Vicarious Vision's immensely popular Crash remake, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy. It'll be interesting to see whether the game hitting new platforms changes that fact, with fans already wondering whether they should expect to see the charismatic marsupial return for a sequel.
That being said, the character will make his return this month in a new game known as Crash Bandicoot: On The Run, which will officially debut on March 25. The mobile title is an endless runner in the same vein as the likes of Temple Run, seeing Crash speed through a variety of levels inspired by his most popular adventures.
