Following months of leaks and rumors, Activision finally pulled the curtain back on Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, which is shaping up to be a serious return to form for the beloved platforming franchise. Now more details on what Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will entail have appeared online, including the confirmation of a local multiplayer mode of some kind.

This information comes from the PlayStation Store listing. Assuming the information isn't made in error, Crash Bandicoot 4 will support local multiplayer for up to four players. Unfortunately, details on what exactly the local multiplayer in Crash Bandicoot 4 will consist of are unavailable at this time, but there are some distinct possibilities. Perhaps there will be some special stages built specifically for co-op play, just as there are Dr. Cortex-specific levels, or maybe all of the levels will be playable in co-op.

Nothing in the Crash Bandicoot 4 reveal trailer indicated that the main levels will be co-op, though, and in fact, it's hard to see how that would work. The game appears to be using a very similar camera set-up as the original games, which isn't really conducive to co-op play. This combined with how the Quantum Mask abilities work makes it seem highly unlikely that the game will have local co-op for its main story levels.

One distinct possibility is that Crash Bandicoot 4 will have mini-games of some kind. The Crash Bandicoot series has featured mini-games in the past, like in Crash Bash, and they would be a good way to give the game some additional replay value. Not only that, but there are some rumors that indicate Crash Bandicoot 4 could indeed have some kind of versus multiplayer component.

According to the rumors, a PvP Crash Bandicoot game is in the works, but maybe that PvP will just be made part of Crash Bandicoot 4 instead of being its own release. What form local multiplayer could take remains to be seen, but the options are endless. More information on the matter should come to light in the months leading up to the game's release.

We know that Crash Bandicoot 4 has even more playable characters to reveal as well, so there should be a lot of big announcement for fans of the franchise to look forward to.
