A substantial discount on Nintendo eShop gift cards is currently being offered by Costco for a limited time. Nintendo's output of Switch games has been especially compelling lately. There are enough exciting Nintendo Switch games coming out that it can prove to be cost-prohibitive to stay caught up. Saving a bit of money can go a long way, and it seems Costco wants to help Nintendo gamers out. This discount may not last long, though, so Nintendo fans with a Costco subscription may want to act fast.

What makes this sale particularly attractive is the recent announcement of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's price and pre-orders. Tears of the Kingdom will be Nintendo's first price increase from the last generation standard of $60. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will instead retail for $70, a price Nintendo says it will use on a "case-by-case basis." Nintendo Switch players will be seeking opportunities to save some money, especially knowing that Nintendo rarely lowers the price on its first-party games.

Costco's discount may be the solution that Nintendo fans are looking for, at least in the interim. Costco is currently offering $50 Nintendo eShop gift cards, which are usable on the Nintendo Switch, for a price of just $40. That's a staggering $20% off each gift card, which can then be applied to any Nintendo Switch eShop digital purchase.

There is one big limitation, of course. Costco is an exclusive store that requires buyers have a membership. A base membership at Costco will set buyers back $60 annually. That'd take quite a few $50 Nintendo eShop gift card purchases to make up for. Still, for those who already have a Costco membership or those who have wanted one and just needed an extra push, this is a great deal and an opportunity to save some money on Nintendo games.

There's no word on how limited the availability of this discount is. It's possible that Costco has just a limited number of gift cards to sell and as soon as they're gone, the discount is over. It's also possible that Costco has a substantial supply, but the discount will only be available for a day or two. Either way, Nintendo shoppers shouldn't sit on the deal or else it may expire. It could happen anytime.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom isn't the only great option to save some money on. Other recent or upcoming Nintendo Switch games include Fire Emblem Engage, Metroid Prime Remastered, Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, Advance Wars 1+2, Pikmin 4, and other likely announcements coming this summer. For digital Nintendo Switch buyers who were already planning to purchase some games, Costco's 20% off a Nintendo eShop gift card is a hard deal to pass up.
