Streamer accessory brand Elgato reveals a new capture card that records in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Elgato, which is a division of gaming accessory company Corsair, also makes the Stream Deck which allows streamers to easily entertain viewers during their streams.

At CES 2020, Corsair and Elgato announced the 4K60 S+ which they say provides "all the cutting-edge technology you need to record high-fidelity gameplay" without being connected to a powerful computer or have production tools in a studio. A trailer for the new tech shows a streamer recording gameplay from an Xbox One and then from a PS4 during a normal gameplay session with a friend and at a capture event. All that users have to do is put in an SD card and press record.

The 4K60 S+ also has some handy technical features such as zero lag in the recordings which is important for those who want to use it to stream console games and not just to record their gameplay. PS4 games like Death Stranding have been popular with Twitch streamers and capture cards allow streamers to stream games like this while getting all of the production of their PC, with tools like OBS Studio. The 4K60 S+ works "seamlessly" with tools like OBS Studio too so there should be no trouble there. The HEVC encoding also keeps the quality of the gameplay recording high and up to seven hours can be recorded on a 256GB SD card.

The new capture card is the sort of thing that will be of great use to streamers who mostly play sports games such as FIFA 20, as these are typically played more on consoles than PC. The 4K60 S+ can be used for Xbox One X and PS4 Pro games too so these games will look how they do for the streamer or YouTuber for all of their viewers.

The 4K60 S+ will be released in Q1 2020 but Elgato and Corsair haven't provided any more details about its release. There is also no information about how much it may cost and if it will work with the Xbox Series X and the PS5. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will have better looking games that could also use something like the 4K60 S+ but it's unclear if they will be supported at launch.
