Remedy Entertainment's Control earned critical acclaim at the time of its release, and it will soon be adding one of its most exciting expansions yet in the form of AWE, which will see the long-awaited return of Alan Wake. Those that have yet to purchase Control will want to check out the upcoming Control: Ultimate Edition, which will be available soon and includes all of the DLC expansions so far, along with some other bonuses.

Control: Ultimate Edition comes with The Foundation expansion along with AWE, and will be available for Steam users beginning August 27. Those on the Epic Games Store, PS4, and Xbox One will have to wait until September 10 to purchase Control: Ultimate Edition, though Remedy didn't give a reason as to why that is. In any case, August 27 is also the release date for the AWE expansion, so those that already have the game on other platforms can just get that instead.

Control: Ultimate Edition also gets players a free next-gen upgrade, meaning they will be able to access the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game at no additional cost. This has understandably upset some fans who have already purchased the standard version of Control, as they feel like they're getting short-changed despite having supported the game since launch. On the bright side, since both the PS5 and Xbox Series X have backward compatibility, fans should still be able to play Control on the new systems regardless, just without all of the next-gen bells and whistles.

While those that already have Control may be a little upset about some of the Ultimate Edition's perks, others are happy to see that the game is finally coming to Steam. Control's Epic Games Store exclusivity was a big controversy in 2019, but now the game is finally coming to Steam with a better, more fully-featured version than what was available to EGS users at launch. It will be interesting to see if this helps the game's Steam sales, especially since some users may still be upset that Control was ever exclusive to Epic Games Store in the first place.

Regardless of Control's past controversies or the current one that's brewing over the free next-gen upgrade, the game earned widespread critical acclaim at the time of its release and was hailed as one of the best games of 2019. Control: Ultimate Edition will help even more gamers discover the game, and should hopefully get more people interested in the Control/Alan Wake video game universe that Remedy is trying to build, which should only mean good things for fans.

Control: Ultimate Edition launches on August 27 for Steam, and will be available for Epic Games Store, PS4, and Xbox One on September 10. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also in development.
