Sony marketing boss Eric Lempel reveals PlayStation 4 outsold Xbox One during November 2015, and saw the biggest month ever for PlayStation Store digital sales.

After announcing the PlayStation 4 outsold the Xbox One during Black Friday, it looks like Sony has another reason to celebrate. The company’s flagship console claimed the entire month of November, maintaining its lead over Microsoft’s current-gen console.

Considering Xbox One won last November, many thought the Xbox One would claim the mark in 2015 thanks to the recent addition of the New User Experience and backward compatibility. However it seems that wasn’t enough to give Microsoft the edge.

Sony marketing boss Eric Lempel made the official announcement to GamesBeat, referencing the sales report from market research firm NPD Group:

“PlayStation 4 is the top-selling console in the United States during the month of November, according to NPD. We have hit several key milestones over the last few weeks. Prior to Black Friday, we announced we have sold through more than 30.2 million PS4s to consumers around the world and that PS4 continues to exhibit the fastest growth in PlayStation hardware history. In addition, Black Friday sales were the strongest in PlayStation history demonstrating more people game now than ever before.”

Lempel also announced November was “the biggest month ever” for PlayStation Store digital sales, complimenting the “healthy retail sales” of both games and consoles.

Microsoft also dropped the price of the Xbox One heading into Black Friday, offering the Gears of War and Rise of the Tomb Raider bundles at $300. However it seems the move wasn’t enough to entice gamers to choose Xbox One over PlayStation 4. As a matter of fact, the Xbox-exclusive Tomb Raider couldn't even crack the top 10 for software sales, which is a bad sign for the franchise moving forward.

That being said, Microsoft does have a solid shot at beating Sony in December thanks to some Holiday-time sales. Beginning on December 22nd, Xbox is running their “Countdown” sale, which touts over 200 discounts (from 40 to 60 percent) over the course of a couple weeks.

At this point, it seems as if the PlayStation 4 can’t be beat, and 2016 looks to be a big year for Sony with the launch of Uncharted 4 and a few other console upgrades. Even though Sony has no plans for PlayStation 3 backward compatibility, the company recently announced PlayStation 2 emulation on its current-gen console. All that seems to point to Sony rounding out the year with a strong December win over Xbox.
