Concord has been confirmed to have six different game modes in a recent announcement. Concord is PlayStation's upcoming hero-shooter that hopes to be its foot in the door of the medium of live-service shooters.

Concord was recently shown off at the PlayStation State of Play, and since then there has been a wave of anticipation surrounding the game. The trailer for Concord offered a look at the gameplay that players can expect from the 5v5 shooter, as well as giving a brief rundown of the abilities of the heroes currently on the roster. The hero shooter is a widely saturated genre, and this can be seen in the general reaction that the game has received so far, with many criticizing Concord's character design and seemingly bland gameplay loop. Every Trailer From The 2024 Playstation State Of Play

There were a handful of games announced at the 2024 Sony Playstation State of Play, here's a rundown.

As reported by Push Square, Concord will have six game modes available to play upon launch, with the possibility of more to be added in the future. These could be seen thanks to non-US versions of the game displaying more information on the PlayStation storefront. The game modes on offer will paint a familiar picture for anyone with experience in the hero shooter genre, as Concord pitches two teams against each other with a range of different objectives.

Concord Will Sport Six Different Game Modes upon Launch

  • Takedown - Each kill players and their team achieve will net them points during the game. The team with the most points at the end is the winner.
  • Trophy Hunt - Killing enemy crew members will drop tokens, and collection of these tokens will earn points for the team. The team with the most points at the end wins.
  • Area Control - Three capture zones will spawn on the map, and maintaining control of these zones will net players points. The more zones a team simultaneously controls, the more points they accrue.
  • Clash Point - Teams will have to locate and defend a designated zone on the map from the enemy crew, or just eliminate them before they get the chance to contest.
  • Signal Chase - Teams will have to locate and control various zones on the map within a limited time to earn points.
  • Cargo Run - Teams will be split between trying to safely extract valuable cargo, or trying to steal the enemy crew's cargo.

Whilst sporting unique names, the crux of these modes will be familiar to most. Takedown offers a standard Team Deathmatch, with Trophy Hunt sporting a Kill Confirmed-style gameplay. Area Control, Clash Point, and Signal Chase all offer various takes on the "capture point" style game mode, and finally, Cargo Run offers what appears to be an attack-vs-defense payload-style mode. The inclusion of various game modes coupled with the hero shooter will result in consideration for crew composition between game modes – what works well in Trophy Hunt may not be as effective in a mode like Signal Chase. With Concord available for pre-order right now, it would be unsurprising if an open beta was to follow soon after, so those interested in what Concord has to offer may be able to try it for themselves soon.

Concord has had a rocky start before it even launched, but with this game mode lineup, it's clear PlayStation is doing the work to make Concord stand out amid the stream of hero shooters. With a handful of interesting game modes being available from launch, as well as Concord sporting a lower price than most, it could just be enough to make a stand. Concord is currently available for pre-order for PC and PlayStation 5, being set to launch on August 23.
