Although he's best known for the likes of Mario, Star Fox, and Zelda, Pikmin is a series that lies extremely close to the heart of its creator Shigeru Miyamoto. The first game was released for the GameCube back in 2001, with three more mainline installments having arrived in the quarter of a century or so since then. The most recent of these is Pikmin 4, which introduces several new ideas, game modes, and mechanics to the long-running RTS franchise, as well as two brand-new species of Pikmin.

Much like its predecessors and most Nintendo games in general, Pikmin 4 has performed incredibly well with critics, with the game boasting an 87 Metacritic rating in the days following its release. Its user score is equally impressive, though whether or not this will translate into high sales remains to be seen. Even if doesn't, it's still a game that's well worked checking out.
