While not much has been revealed about what will be going on for the upcoming Community movie, Danny Pudi, who played Abed Nadir throughout the show's run from 2009 to 2015, gave an update on where everyone involved is at for the upcoming film.

Pudi admitted in an interview that while not much has been planned out as of now, everyone whose onboard is excited about the prospect of the long-requested Community movie being greenlit, but that is to be expected since the movie was announced not all too long ago and the cast hasn't played their characters in years.

In an interview with Kyle Meredith, Pudi detailed the few details that he and the cast have ironed out since the Community movie was greenlit. "We've had some discussions. We've had some meetings. A couple of Zoom calls, just regarding story and things of that nature, but nothing formal is in place yet. It's more of just an agreement that we're all excited to do this." Pudi then shouted out to the fans for making the movie happen when no one involved with the show thought the movie was possible. "That's truly special. I think it's something that I don't think any of us truly expected...then the fans jumped onto it and really made it a rallying cry. I think it was just something beautiful that we owe to the fans for keeping our show alive."

Even though Community struggled with ratings throughout its run, it still managed to run for six seasons - three of them were only 13 episodes - because of how loyal the fanbase was when it was on the air. When Community hit Netflix in 2020, or back when the COVID-19 pandemic was keeping everyone at home, the fanbase only got stronger. This led to stronger demands for the show to get the movie, which fans have wanted for years.

Sadly though, it may be a while before the movie gets released because that's how it works with movies that have just been greenlit, especially when they are follow-ups to shows that haven't been around in years, like Community. First things first, they need a head count for who is willing to return for the upcoming movie. While most of the original cast has been signed on, others like Yvette Nicole Brown remain up in the air. After that, they can start on the story, script, and direction. Community was a unique comedy, and converting their style to a full-length feature could be easier said than done.

Fans shouldn't be too discouraged about that because the bottom line is the prophecy of the #SixSeasonsAndAMovie will be fulfilled. However long it may take for those involved with Community to make the movie fans have openly pined for is irrelevant because they are finally getting their favorite show back. What they should want more than anything is for the show's quality to come back with it when the movie gets released. Other reboots have infamously not been received as well because while it was great to see the franchise revived, its storytelling and direction did not return.

The Community movie will be streamed on Peacock.
