Seeing the iconic cape and cowl was not only a big moment for star Robert Pattinson, but for the rest of The Batman cast as well. Now, Penguin's Colin Farrell has shared his first impression of seeing his co-star in the Batsuit.

The Batsuit this time around has a more rugged and metallic look, and Pattinson recently revealed how his The Batman suit even forced the rest of the cast and crew to act differently around him, noting how wearing such a suit almost gave him this totemic power. That same anxious feeling was no different for Farrell, who portrays the crime boss Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin in the film.

In all of his Penguin makeup and prosthetics, ready to start filming, Farrell recalls looking up at Pattinson, who was filming on top of a building, and seeing the actor in his Batsuit, sharing why that moment was so meaningful. "The first time I saw Rob in the Batsuit, it was the first time I saw the Batman. I pulled up to the set, we were doing the warehouse scene just before the car chase," Farrell said to Twitter Movies. "I got out of the car — in full costume, full makeup, ready to shoot — and I looked up on the roof. They were just finishing a shot up on the roof with Batman, and swear to God: he was looking down, the cape was blowing in the wind, he was backlit, I could see the cowl, the two ears sticking up. It was two o'clock in the morning, and I just thought, 'Oh, my God, there it is.' Not even 'he,' but 'it.'"

The actor would go on to explain the importance of the character and what Batman means to everyone, describing seeing Pattinson as Batman as "cool." No matter the differences, whether it's George Clooney's or Christian Bale's, every Batsuit presented on screen has its unique characteristics. For Pattinson's suit, it is definitely a more homemade look that seems to embody his early crime-fighting years.

While Pattinson's version of the Dark Knight may be the topic of discussion, Farrell's energetic and almost unrecognizable portrayal as Penguin has received plenty of praise as well. Inspired by classic gangster films such as The Godfather, Farrell's layered performance as the iconic comic book villain heads down a much darker and more serious path in contrast to Danny DeVito's portrayal in 1992's Batman Returns.

Farrell will look to delve deeper into the character's psyche in Penguin's own spin-off series for HBO Max, a project that will likely see Penguin's rise to becoming an even more intimidating mob boss. Until Farrell's Penguin is explored in greater depth, fans can catch his terrific performance in The Batman, a film that is already being hailed as one of the best Batman films to date. Along with Farrell and Pattinson, the film also stars Paul Dano as the Riddler, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Peter Sarsgaard as district attorney Gil Colson.

The Batman is now playing in theaters and will be available to stream on HBO Max on April 19, 2022.
