Code Vein is a souls-like game that has the art style, atmosphere, and storyline structure mostly associated with anime. Because of this, it's been appropriately dubbed by its community as an "anime-souls" title. The bosses in the game can be really challenging. Players will really need to use the game's best equipment and magic spells to overcome these challenges.

Code Vein is not as difficult as Dark Souls or Bloodborne, but it can still kill players constantly if they're not careful. The best way to deal with the game's challenges is to make sure to use a build that's properly optimized. There are a lot of builds players can use in the game to ensure their characters are as overpowered as possible.

6 Long Ranged Mage Build

Casting a spell in Code Vein.

One of the best ways to deal with enemies in Code Vein is to damage them from afar. There is a multitude of offensive gifts players can use in this game for that. Players can use a Mage build, and they can defeat the monsters in this game before they can even get close to them.

The equipment and gifts for this build increase the damage of gifts and increases their Ichor. This ensures they can cast as much as they can, for as long as they can. The player's main weapon type for this build is the Bayonet Rifle. This will allow them to still attack enemies from afar using the weapon's heavy attack.

  • Weapon Type - Bayonet Rifles
  • Blood Code - Perseus / Queen's Throat
  • Gift - Any ranged active gift, Mind Up (Ishtar), Willpower Up (Queen), Max Ichor Boost (Harmonia), Avarice (Hephaestus).
  • Blood Veil - Ivory Grace

5 Balanced Melee Build

The main character in Code Vein running toward an enemy.

Those who want speed and mobility can use a pure dexterity build. Those who'd rather prioritize damage and raw power can use a pure strength build. However, there are some players who want the best of both worlds. For this, they can form a melee build that's balanced.

The Halberds are the best weapons for this build. Halberds aren't too slow, and the most powerful halberds can deal a ton of damage to enemies. The other equipment, gifts, and the Blood Code for this build are selected to make this balanced build even more powerful.

  • Weapon Type - Halberds
  • Blood Code - Queenslayer
  • Gift - Any offensive active gift, Strength/Dexterity Up (Prometheus), Eternal Blade Dance (Prometheus), Halberd Mastery (Dark Knight), Tirelessness (RV Mastery (115))
  • Blood Veil - Hedgehog Fort

4 Tank Build

The main character in Code Vein wearing a GXL Defender Blood Veil.

Players can also make sure their HP and defense are as high as possible. This build prioritizes the player's defense while taking their offense as the secondary factor. A lot of the enemies in Code Vein can deal a ton of damage. This build negates that and allows the player to be more resilient in combat.

For this build, the player will need gifts that increase their HP and defense. The Blood Code and Blood Veil further add to this as well. The player can use heavy weapons for this, so they can deal more damage since there are no buffs for damage with this build.

  • Weapon Type - Any, but preferably Halberds or Two-Handed Swords.
  • Blood Code - Asclepius
  • Gift - Sturdy Body (Pollux), Merciless Reaper (Assassin), Health Boost (Fighter), Health Stimulant (Warrior)
  • Blood Veil - GXL Defender

3 Vampire Build

The main character in Code Vein doing a drain attack.

This build turns the player into somewhat of a life-stealing vampire. This utilizes gifts that will allow them to restore HP whenever they kill an enemy or use their drain attack. This can be useful in case they run out of Regeneration, which can happen a ton given the hordes of enemies players will need to face in each level.

The player can use any type of weapon for this, so long as it kills enemies fast so that they can recover HP faster. The most important aspects of this build are the Life Steal and the Regenerative Drain gifts. The former recovers 100 HP each time the player kills an enemy and the latter makes them regain health whenever they do a drain attack.

  • Weapon Type - Any
  • Blood Code - Survivor
  • Gift - Regenerator (Eos), Usurper's Blade (Pollux), Goddess's Smile (Ishtar), Life Steal (Survivor), Improved Regeneration (Warrior), Regenerative Drain (Hades)
  • Blood Veil - Night Fang

2 Pure Dexterity Build

Facing an enemy in Code Vein.

This build prioritizes speed above all else. A dexterity build player will have to use a one-handed sword and make use of its swift attack speed. Although these weapons don't deal as much damage as two-handed weapons, the rate at which they swing more than makes up for this.

The Blood Code, Blood Veil, and the Revenant's Ambition gift will allow them to increase their weight capacity, so their mobility is quick. This turns their dodge rolls into fast glides. Other gifts also increase the player's damage to make up for the low base damage of the one-handed sword.

  • Weapon Type - One-handed swords
  • Blood Code - Achilles / Queenslayer
  • Gift - Any offensive gift for one-handed swords, Dexterity Up (Hunter), Revenant's Ambition (Queen's Breath), One-handed Sword Mastery (Prometheus), Swift Destruction (Hephaestus)
  • Blood Veil - Master Spines / Ivory Grace

1 Pure Strength Build

Slamming a two-handed sword in Code Vein.

Strength builds is one of the most popular builds when it comes to RPG titles and souls-like games. Code Vein is no different. Players can use the powerful two-handed swords or hammers in the game to deal as much damage as they can.

Although these weapons are slow, once the player perfects the timing of these weapons, they'll be unstoppable. Not even the most powerful bosses in Code Vein will be able to stop a player who can master this build.

  • Weapon Type - Two-handed Swords / Two-handed Hammers
  • Blood Code - Atlas / Ymir
  • Gift - Any offensive gift for two-handed weapons, Two-handed Sword Mastery (Atlas), Strength/Vitality Up (Atlas), Strength/Fortitude Up (Surt), Strength Up (Hermes)
  • Blood Veil - GXH Assault

Code Vein was released on September 2019. It is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
