Modern Warfare Zombies continues the story set up in 2021's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. With Cold War's Outbreak mode, players got the first taste of an open-world, objective-focused zombie experience. Expanding the open world concept into the gigantic mission area of Urzikstan, Modern Warfare Zombies provides a massive, 24-player co-op Zombies mode that furthers the story of Officer Weaver and Captain Ravenov as players work alongside Ravenov and Task Force 141 member John 'Soap' MacTavish in a mission known as Operation Deadbolt.

With a style more in the vein of DMZ than traditional Zombies maps, players will run into some changes when it comes to a player's greatest tool when it comes to surviving the hordes: perk sodas. Available through acquisitions or schematics in the pre-game lobby or purchasable at any of the respective Perk-a-Cola machines scattered throughout Urzikstan, players who are veterans of the Zombies community will find a couple of benefits have been removed from perks, while some additions have been made to play into the hands of the open-world gameplay. Here's a full breakdown of each perk and their updated effects.

All Perks

The first big change players will notice to perks, in general, is that perks are no longer lost when players are downed. If players are revived before they completely bleed out, they will retain any active perks. If players bleed out - perks will be lost, even if revived by a squad mate or recruited and revived by another squad. Having Self-Revives in stow can guarantee players can retain any perks consumed until players can exfil.

Additionally, similar to Cold War, there is no limit to the number of Perk-a-Colas players can drink to activate perks simultaneously. Most Call of Duty Zombies games have capped drinking soda cans at up to four perks, with additional perks after four requiring a perk soda power-up, solving in-game puzzles, or a Perkaholic gobblegum in Black Ops 3.

Players will also have no problem acquiring perks in Modern Warfare Zombies, as perks are littered throughout Urzikstan, not just as rewards for completing missions and clearing mercenary outposts but also simply available in random refrigerators, on the shelves in stores, or even just laying on the beach - keep an eye out!

If players do end up visiting any Perk-a-Cola machines, don't forget to go prone directly in front of the machine to check underneath for loose change.

Jugger-Nog

mwz - all perks - jugg

One of the classic four perks debuting back in Call of Duty: World at War's Verruckt map, Jugger-Nog is a perk soda that tastes like amaretto eggnog and is known for increasing players' health. Taking its name from the Juggernaut perk in World at War's multiplayer of the same effect, Jugger-Nog is a must-have when traversing to the higher-threat areas of Urzikstan.

Jugger-Nog will increase players' health from 150 to 250 and provide fatal protection - meaning a player's health will drop to 1 on a fatal hit from an enemy, not zero, requiring one additional hit to down players and giving an extra moment to escape.

Quick Revive

mwz - all perks - quick revive

With a taste like fish and a bright blue bottle, Quick Revive is a staple of Zombies solo play, previously being able to grant solo players a limited number of self-revives. With Modern Warfare Zombies reworked approach to equipment and having self-revives available in the mission area (along with the total removal of solo play from Zombies), Quick Revive no longer grants players the ability to self-revive. Players will still benefit from increased health regeneration(and decreased delay until regeneration starts) along with a boost to self-revive use speed.

Players will also be able to revive fallen operators at an increased speed, including the speed of reviving completely dead players. If squads are moving into Tier III, Quick Revive is a must to be able to successfully revive allies with the pursuing horde.

Speed Cola

Speed Cola is a must for those who want to speed up their hands - from increasing field upgrade recharge rate to repairing boarded windows in older Zombies modes, Speed Cola has had a wide variety of awesome effects throughout the years. Mostly known for dramatically increasing reload speed, this green soda with the psychedelic vending machine will not affect field upgrades in Modern Warfare Zombies (and with no windows to repair, players will not be able to take advantage of the increased window repair speed), although players will be able to insert plates into their equipped vest significantly faster when this perk is active.

Modern Warfare 3's new partitioned plating process allows for other partial actions in between loading a second or third plate (such as finishing or starting a reload or taking off a gas mask), meaning players can rapidly reload and replate simultaneously after grabbing a can of Speed Cola. Especially for LMGs, launchers, or any weapon with a heavily extended magazine, speed cola is a must to offset reload times that could be fatal.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Zombies may be a lot of fun, but it is missing out on a golden opportunity by leaving out DMZ’s biggest strength.

Stamin-Up

mwz - all perks - staminup

A must-have in the massive open area of Urzikstan, Stamin-Up debuted in Call of Duty: Zombies back in the first map pack of the first installment in the Black Ops series. Providing a massive boost to running stamina, players will be able to use Modern Warfare's tactical sprint (along with the standard sprint) for an increased duration and enjoy increased sprint speed. With Stamin-Up active, players will be able to outpace the Verruckt Sprinters located in the Medium and High Threat Zones, making this perk a necessity for operating in these areas.

Unfortunately, Stamin-Up does not affect swim speed, so be careful when moving near water, as stepping in an area that's too deep to run will significantly slow players down.

PHD Flopper

Debuting alongside Stamin-Up in the Ascension map from Call of Duty: Black Ops, PHD Flopper returns in Modern Warfare Zombies. A fan-favorite perk, PHD Flopper has had a rough history, being omitted from most Zombies installments despite its popularity in Black Ops, often reappearing as a bonus effect from an alternate Zombies tool like Gobblegums in Black Ops 3 or Trinkets in Black Ops 4. In some cases, the perk has been completely reworked into a new perk with a similar but not quite as fulfilling effect, such as PHD Slider or Bombstoppers.

With a history flooded with turmoil, PHD Flopper seems to have finally found its place in the Zombies vending machine with Modern Warfare 3. When active, PHD Flopper will completely negate any explosive, fire, or poison damage, and not just from enemy forces. Players will gain full immunity to any self-inflicted area of effect damage, including armaments like the Mortar Strike, lethal equipment like proximity mines, and even Wonder Weapons like the Ray Gun. After drinking PHD Flopper players can deploy explosives danger close with no concern.

Additionally, players will also gain the ability to unleash a small nuclear blast on zombies by flopping on the ground. The original golden feature of the perk is back - and the distance players fall after sprinting and diving to flop on the ground will determine the damage and range of the blast. Players can use this blast to quickly drop large groups of zombies if a small elevated platform is available to dive from.

Be careful with this effect, as failing to fall far enough can cause players to dive into a horde of zombies without triggering the detonation, failing to eliminate any of the pursuing enemies.

Whether Call of Duty Zombies fans like it or not, there is a chance that Modern Warfare 3 Zombies will have a permanent impact on quest Easter eggs.

Deadshot Daquiri

With a rockin' jingle and a head-poppin' effect, Deadshot Daquiri has been a quintessential perk of the Zombies modes since it first appeared back in Black Ops. While active, Deadshot significantly improves player accuracy, shrinking players' hip-fire crosshair. This effect also extends to Modern Warfare's tac-stance, providing reduced crosshair size and improved target acquisition when aiming tactically.

Players will also find that when aiming down sights, the auto-aim will line up the sight of a weapon with a target's head rather than center mass. Players will need to have the aim assist settings enabled to take advantage of this effect.

Tombstone Soda

mwz - all perks - tombstone

Another perk with a rocky history, Tombstone Soda is back in Modern Warfare Zombies, now better than ever. When the perk first appeared in Black Ops 2, it failed to find a solid footing and quickly disappeared after appearing in Tranzit. Ten years later, Tombstone is back and more effective than ever. One of the best tools a solo player can have in their arsenal, while active, if players die and fail to exfil from a game they will drop a tombstone at the location of death. On the next deployment, players will be able to find their grave site from the previous game, interact with the tombstone, andreacquire all items from the previous game.

The tombstone's location will present itself to players at the start of the next deployment after dying with the perk active -- players can find a navigation indicator on the tac-map. Players will only have one game to reach the tombstone and acquire the lost goods, as the tombstone will disappear if not collected in the game immediately following the player's death with the perk. While players must reach the gravesite in the next following game if they wish to save any loot, they will have the full duration of that one deployment to access the grave site, so players do not need to rush straight to their tombstone after deployment, although it may be wise if large amounts of high tier loot were dropped.

Death Perception

mwz - all perks - death perception-1

One of the newest perks in the roster, Death Perception, is a player's best friend when operating in close-quarters environments. After drinking this Perk-a-Cola, players will be able to see any nearby threats or available loot through walls and other environmental obstacles. A form of x-ray vision, Death Perception will highlight dangerous enemies and valuables in a dark red-burgundy aura, making it easy for players to dodge attacks while running around corners and quickly evaluate if a building has any loot crates inside.

Given the many cramped apartment buildings or office spaces scattered throughout Urzikstan, players will want to grab themselves a can of Death Perception, especially if attempting contracts in more dangerous zones of the map that map force players to survive or navigate through incredibly risky areas - having the foresight of a zombie coming around the corner in front can give players the moment needed to react.
