Cobra Kai will be striking Netflix viewers with its fifth season come September, but as the premiere edges closer, it’s about time that some extra promotional content was released. This happens to come in the form of exclusive images that may just tease a bit of what will go down in the battle for the soul of San Fernando Valley.

Prior to these new photos, Cobra Kai announcements had been limited to casting additions and the first Cobra Kai season 5 trailer that had confirmed the shift to a September 9 release. Yet as of today, a new antagonist has entered the fray. That is because, in each of its four seasons, Cobra Kai has always looked to dig back some of that nostalgia from The Karate Kid movies, and now it's quite clear who Terry Silver recruited to help with the dojo’s current expansions plans.

That means Sean Kanan will steal many fans ’attention in a couple of tweets posted by Netflix's official account. In the post by Twitter, the actor can be seen reprising the role of Silver's former student and Daniel LaRusso's rival, Mike Barnes. The other photos show scenes from the upcoming season, including Johnny Lawrence and Chozen reunited with Daniel, as well as Robby finding his way back to the Miyagi-Do dojo or even next to Miguel on what appears to be American soil, which would prove that the father and son duo succeeded in finding him.

Among the scenes depicted in the official photos are some featuring a new Cobra Kai sensei, played by Alicia Hannah-Kim. There is also the addition of at least one new female student joining Tory Nichols, who’s shown close to confronting Silver over the bribery scheme he used to influence her results. One thing to keep in mind is that Mike Barnes is not seen wearing a karate gi, perhaps hinting at a scene where he’s involved in some other fight with someone else.

Showrunners Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz have stated on numerous occasions that they feel there are still plenty of topics and stories left to explore in the MiyagiVerse, so even if it’s Barnes' turn for now, there’s no reason to rule out Hilary Swank eventually joining the cast. Nevertheless, Cobra Kai has a lot of loose ends to tie before it moves on to new stories and younger karate stars like the young Anthony LaRusso and Kenny rivalry.

With a second Cobra Kai video game on the way, despite the first entry’s failure, it’s beyond doubt that the Cobra Kai name is one of the best series Netflix has planned for coming months, besides the current hit that is The Sandman.

Cobra Kai season 5 will be released on Netflix on September 9, 2022.
