Koudo Ikusei, also known as Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School in Classroom of the Elite is a prestigious academy with the aim of fostering Japan’s most promising minds. It was created by the Japanese government, providing significant perks to students who graduate at the top of their grades.

It is a special facility featuring areas with luxurious infrastructure and high-quality equipment. However, it is not simply an institution designed to provide comfort to its students, but rather a competitive testing ground where rewards are solely based on merit. It is an unforgiving environment rife with deceit, manipulation, and scheming, which all make for a truly engaging experience. As a massive establishment with plenty of unique features, here are a few things you may not have known about the distinguished school.

8 The School’s Campus Was Designed To Mirror Society

As a school established by the Japanese government to nurture individuals who will contribute greatly to society, its school grounds were also designed with that in mind. The area of the campus stretches over 600,000 square meters, and it includes every necessary facility a person might need.

Despite being a high school, it has its own park, boulevard, convenience store, and even its own mall. Different staff operate in each area, and most areas are constantly monitored. Furthermore, the facilities are state of the art, and students who manage themselves properly are capable of enjoying the luxury to their heart's content.

7 Communicating With Members Of The Outside World Is Strictly Forbidden

In addition to replicating life as a regular citizen, the school is also extremely restrictive. Not only are students not allowed to leave the campus, but contact with the outside world is also forbidden. These rules seem to be properly enforced, as, over the course of the series, not many students have been seen doing either.

It is stated, however, that there are special cases where students may be allowed to contact their families with the school's permission. It is also possible, in special cases, for parents to meet with their children on school grounds, as seen when Ayanokoji's father visited with the aim of getting Ayanokoji to withdraw.

6 The School’s Library Is Modeled After A Real World University Library

academy library

Nowadays, every learning facility is bound to possess a library that serves to aid students in their quest for academic excellence, with Koudo Ikusei no different. Interestingly enough, the design for the school library was inspired by that of the real-world Akita International University's Nakajima Memorial Library.

Though the resemblance is mostly displayed through the interior, the library retains its polished aesthetic as the environment is perfectly replicated in the anime. It made its first appearance in the show when Horikita invited some Class 1-D boys struggling academically to help them study. Unfortunately, it did not go too well, and the boys ended up leaving soon after due to Horikita’s condescending demeanor.

5 One Private Point Equals One Japanese Yen

points system

Private points are a form of currency issued individually to each student enrolled at the Tokyo Metropolitan High School. They are usually distributed at the beginning of each month and can be spent with a vast degree of freedom. They work just as real money would and can also be transferred between students as long as each party consents to the transaction.

Since private points represent real money, a conversion rate is naturally implemented. As a result, one private point is the equivalent of one Japanese yen. However, this currency is only usable on school grounds despite its worth.

4 Students Partake In Both Regular And Special Exams

Apart from the regular exams common with schools at all levels of education, there are special exams conducted at Koudo Ikusei with relatively similar stakes. These exams take the form of special events aimed at evaluating different attributes of each student within a specific class, after which class points are distributed according to how well a class performs relative to the others.

Special exams vary greatly and, as shown in the anime, are not always conducted on school grounds. They serve to evaluate classes as a whole and are the main avenue at which they can rise in the ranks.

3 Class Points Directly Influence Private Points

Class points are valuable currency evenly distributed among students of a specific class at the beginning of each month. The number of class points granted to a class is usually determined by their performance in special exams.

They are valuable currency in that one class point is equivalent to 100 private points. Apart from their value in the form of private points, they serve the additional purpose of determining the class's overall rankings. As a result, every class is capable of attaining the title of Class A as long as its members cooperate to achieve that goal.

2 Classes Are Ranked Alphabetically Based On The S-System

Upon admission, each student is placed into different classes based on multiple factors. It is not enough to excel solely in academics because students are also evaluated based on collaborative skills, physical ability, decision-making, and other relevant attributes. This evaluation continues even after they are enrolled in the school and is referred to as the S-System.

The S-System implements previously established criteria and is used to determine the number of points a class receives at the end of the month, ultimately deciding how they rank as well. Classes are ordered from A to D, with A being the highest rank and D being the lowest. Furthermore, students are naturally placed in one class until graduation but can transfer to any class of their choice provided they pay a sum of 20 million private points.

1 The Academy’s Student Council Holds An Absurd Amount Of Power

A regular student council is an important organization within a school setting with a unique set of responsibilities. However, the student council in the Classroom Of The Elite series is far from regular, possessing authority in some cases greater than that of actual teachers.

Not only does the president have the power to expel students he deems deserving of said punishment, all other prosecutions must also go through him, even if presented by a teacher. There are checks in place, however, as in some cases, rulings by the president may be overridden by the vice president. Nonetheless, they command respect from the school's teachers and possess great authority over the students.
