Ayanokoji’s Incredible Foresight

Episode 2 opened with the focus centered on Koenji, an unpleasant, headstrong character in Class I-D. In the first season, Koenji revealed undesirable aspects of his personality; he is self-driven and ignorant of the wishes of his fellow classmates. Based on his actions in the first season, it won't be far-fetched to call him an air-headed character obsessed with himself. But, surprisingly, the episode portrayed Koenji as an intelligent individual. Although his strategy wasn't revealed, he got Team Jupiter to make a stand early in the test, setting the pace for the whole saga. Although the consequences of his actions may not be good, it was impressive, and they earned the praise of Ayanokoji.

After Koenji’s debut in episode 2, the setting soon changes to one featuring Horikita Suzune and Kiyotaka Ayanokoji in a discussion. A significant portion of their discussion revolved around Karuizawa Kei. Ayanokoji wanted quality information on Karuizawa, suspecting her to be one of the VIPs despite her non-cooperation with Team Mars. At first, Horikita dismissed Ayanokoji ‘s suggestion, stating that “there is no logic behind her actions.” Still, Ayanokoji intelligently explained to Horikita that sometimes there is more to a person than how they appear to be. Consequently, there is more to Karuizawa than she lets on – a pretty common occurrence revolving around most characters in Classroom of the Elite. Ayanokoji was able to notice the slight changes in Karuizawa’s behavior – enough facts for him to deduce that Karuizawa is a VIP candidate.

The insightful conversation between these two characters was soon interrupted by Ryuen, the leader of Class-C, and his henchmen. Trying to coax Horikita to join his fold, he offered catchy propositions to her, which she all turned down. In the background, Ayanokoji scrutinized Ryuen objectively, making a handful of deductions about the gangster-like character. According to Ayanokoji, Ryuen has the potential to ace the test because he inches closer to figuring out the subtleties of the academy. After the brief meeting, Ayanokoji encountered Kushida, who acted weirdly and out of character toward Ayanokoji. In season one, Ayanokoji saw Kushida’s dark side, making him cautious about the character. So, when she threw at him in episode 2, her actions raised questions bordering on what she was trying to achieve. Even though fans can deduce a romantic intention from Kushida's end, it may be another of her schemes.

Karuizawa’s True Nature

Karuizawa crying

The first episode of Classroom of the Elite’s second season ended with Karuizawa weeping in her bathroom. Her surprising actions intrigued Classroom of the Elite fans, teasing viewers on the reason behind her actions and whether it will be revealed in episode 2. As expected, Karuizawa turned out to be a very interesting character, and this was revealed clearly in episode 3. First off, she was a “victim of horrific bullying” in her younger years. This development pushed her to enter a comfortable relationship with Hirata, the representative of Class 1-D, to protect herself from further bullying.

However, after the bullying saga in episode 1, which forced her to dredge up the past, Karuizawa now decided to use Hirata as a weapon to counter her new bullies. Unfortunately, Hirata declined to be used as such. Furthermore, he suggested pioneering a peaceful resolution between Karuizawa and her bullies. Karuizawa refused Hirata’s offer and decided to end the relationship. Coincidentally, Ayanokoji witnessed this development, confirming his suspicions about the character. After ending her relationship with Hirata, Karuizawa seems to have found solace in the Class 1-A student, Machida. Unfortunately, her new source of protection wasn't there to protect her from bullies when she was cornered in an isolated cabin. The whole situation revealed the personality of a bully victim in Karuizawa. While Karuizawa was caught up in this messy situation, Ayanokoji had the option of saving her from the bullies. Regardless, the cold and intelligent character decided to wait and see the outcome of the bullying. Although Ayanokoji's motive is still unclear in episode 2, the next episode will unveil his goal.

Aside from the Karuizawa saga in episode 2, Team Mars didn't make any progress regarding the discussion of the VIP identities. All their discussions resulted in a deadlock, which is the goal of Class 1-A. How Team Mars will successfully unveil the VIP identities has been pretty much decided by Class 1-A. However, Ayanokoji or Ichinose might just throw a wrench in their plans. Depending on the way it goes, Team Mars's final stance will be fun to see in the next episode of Classroom of the Elite.
