Supercell’s popular mobile strategy game Clash of Clans has just released its June update. One of the highlights is the introduction of an all-new character called the Builder’s Apprentice.

The Builder’s Apprentice, as the name suggests, is an assistant builder that can be assigned to a building or a hero upgrade already in progress to save time on lengthy upgrades. Here is a detailed guide on how to unlock, upgrade, and use the Builder’s Apprentice in Clash of Clans.

How to Unlock the Builder’s Apprentice

Players can unlock Builder’s Apprentice from the ‘Resources’ tab in the shop by spending 500 gems. It is important to point out that you will need to reach at least Town Hall level 10 to get this character. After unlocking the character, you will see his image on the Town Hall, which shows his availability. Simply click on the character, and you will see all the upgrades that are in progress.

From there, you can assign the Builder’s Apprentice to any upgrade. At its base level, the Builder’s Apprentice saves one hour of time when assigned to a task. However, that number can be increased by upgrading the character. And yes, heroes are an important part of your troops, so it would be a good idea to upgrade them first.

There's no doubt that the Builder’s Apprentice is pretty handy, but it also has some limitations. For starters, you can only use it in the Home Village, so it’s useless in the Forge, Clan Capital, and Builder’s Base. Secondly, it can only work for one hour before needing a 23-hour cooldown period, which means gamers can only use it once per day. In addition to that, if an upgrade is completed before the Apprentice Builder's one-hour shift, the remaining time will be wasted because players can’t assign the Apprentice to a new task until the next day. Items like the Builder Potion, which improves the speed of other builders, have no effect on the Builder's Apprentice.

Clash of Clans players can upgrade the Builder’s Apprentice to increase its speed. Let’s take a look at its upgrade costs:

  • Level 2: 500 gems
  • Levels 3 and 4: 750 gems
  • Levels 5, 6, 7, and 8: 1,000 gems

Is The Builder's Apprentice Worth It In Clash Of Clans?

Upgrading your Builder's Apprentice to the 8th level can save you eight hours of upgrade time daily, but it will cost you a whopping 6,500 gems in total. The Builder's Apprentice is a handy character, but it’s a bit pricey and is only available for specific types of upgrades with a high cooldown period. However, unlike the Builder Potion, it’s a long-term investment, so some players may find it worthwhile.
