Civilization 6's Rise and Fall expansion introduced the concept of Ages to Firaxis' historical turn-based strategy. Based on the successes of a player's civilization during each Age of the game, they'll either enter a Dark, Normal, Golden, or Heroic Age in the next. The most beneficial of these is the Heroic Age, which offers Civilization 6 players a selection of powerful bonuses for their civilization, but is also the hardest to achieve.

How to Enter a Heroic Age

In order to enter a Heroic Age, players must already be in a Dark Age and then achieve a high enough Era Score to qualify for a Golden Age next. This means that players cannot enter a Heroic Age as their first Age in the game, and cannot ever enter a Heroic Age without being in a Dark Age first. There are hundreds of ways to earn Era Score in Civilization 6, but in order to earn enough to exceed the Golden Age threshold, players should focus their efforts on the Dedication they chose when first entering the Dark Age.

While Dark Ages are generally something that players will want to avoid, the unique Policy Cards they offer and the chance of achieving a Heroic Age afterward can make up for the Loyalty penalties. In fact, purposefully entering a Dark Age in order to set up for a Heroic Age is a viable strategy, though the expansive nature of the Era Score system can make this hard to reliably arrange.

The Heroic Age Dedications

Besides the strong Loyalty bonus that they share with Golden Ages, the true benefit of a Heroic Age is that they allow players to pick three Dedications, two more than they'd get in a Golden Age. Golden/Heroic Age Dedications don't give ways to gain Era Score like Dark/Normal Age Dedications do, instead they offer incredibly powerful bonuses that can quickly propel a player to the Civilization 6 victory of their choice.

Which Dedications are available depends on which Era the civilization is currently in, but there are a few that players should look for specifically. Exodus of the Evangelists can provide a massive boost to early Religion, allowing players to spread their Missionaries far and wide or quickly acquire a Great Prophet. On the expansion side, Sic Hunt Draconis adds +3 Population to all Cities founded on a different continent to the capital, an incredible bonus to Population growth that can save dozens of turns in the right situation. Finally, in the late-game, Wish You Were Here and Sky and Stars can give players the final boost they need to secure a Cultural or Scientific Victory respectively.

Civilization 6 is available for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
