Building a Monument in Civilization 6 is a great way to quickly boost the Culture and Loyalty of any given city. However, with so many different Units, Districts, and Buildings to construct, it is not always clear exactly when a player should be erecting their Monuments. Fortunately, there are some general guidelines that fans can look to when trying to time the establishment of these Civilization 6 City Center Buildings, and they are discussed below.

To start with a player's Capital in Civ 6, while it is often wise to construct a Monument early, in order to really start climbing the Civics tree, there are other things that should very likely come first. These things include building a Scout (for locating Tribal Villages and being first to City-States), some level of defense (the amount contingent upon the selected difficulty level), and a Settler (for expansion). After that, players should begin looking to fit the construction of a Monument into their Production queues, though the exact timing will certainly be variable.

For instance, if a player finds that they are waiting for a Population increase so that they can produce a second Settler, then that may be the perfect time to erect a Monument. Similarly, if a fan is close to finishing the Technology that will give them access to their first District in Civ 6, then the Monument may be a good way to fill those turns. While this is admittedly not extremely precise instruction, hopefully it will clarify the approximate stage when players should be trying to build a Monument in their Capitals.

civ 6 build monument when

With respect to constructing Monuments in additional cities in Civilization 6, it is often reasonable to make them the very first Production after a new city has been settled. Indeed, the increased rate of border growth that Monuments provide, thanks to their Culture bonus, can be very helpful for expanding a new settlement, and they can also address concerns about a city's Loyalty.

That said, if a new city is not settled on fresh water than it may be better to get a Granary ahead of the Monument. This is because expanding a settlement's borders will not do a great deal if it is heavily restricted by its Housing in Civ 6, as there will not be enough Population to work very many tiles, though players should still likely plan to build a Monument early in the life of these new cities.

Civilization 6 is available for iOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
