Chucky (Brad Dourif) of Child's Play fame has been the killer doll of choice over the past four decades. But he may get a run for his money thanks to recent creative ventures.

In 1988, Dourif's debut of Charles Lee Ray in Child's Play did the unexpected and made dolls scary. Chucky became the killer doll of choice after Ray transposed his spirit into a Good Guy doll. But this is a new era and millennium, and the ginger overall-wearing figure may have to fight for that title.

23 Scariest Dolls In Horror Movies

Evil dolls have been a popular horror movie trope for years, but which movies have created the scariest dolls so far?

After the 2022 film M3GAN, chances are that Chucky and the titular AI will have a smack-down drag-out fight. At least, that’s what everyone wants in the Chucky TV show that could be better than the movies. And if fans ask Chucky creator Don Mancini, he may have similar ideas. “I would say, stay tuned,” Mancini told Variety when the publication asked if M3GAN would appear on the SyFy series.

M3GAN 2

The title character of Blumhouse's M3GAN blew audiences away during the doll's dramatic debut. After Cady (Violet McGraw) loses her parents and is entrusted to the guardianship of her aunt, Gemma (Allison Williams), the only solace she finds is in a robotic doll. Gemma heads a robotic toy department, and M3GAN is her brainchild. But while she tries to use the robot to help her niece heal from grief, M3GAN takes on a mind of her own to protect Cady – even through murder. This plot is slightly different from Chucky's origin, who has no loyalty to anyone and lusts for blood. But that didn't stop beef between Chucky and M3gan when M3GAN premiered. With her viral dance moves, M3GAN was a doll for a new era. The two iconic characters have made many viewers wonder how the two compare to each other. But Chucky being Chucky, refuses to be supplanted.

Mancini's comment about the two meeting on screen is quite telling. Teasing the audience with a maybe is promising news. Mancini did not give Variety a flat-out no, meaning the two could meet on the SyFy series. The fact that NBC owns both characters is even more promising. The Chucky series could make its own multiverse, only a lot more bloody. As opposed to the connected stories that the MCU has been weaving for the past decade and a half, Chucky could bridge the gap with viewers who love M3GAN. The SyFy series is already meta, and incorporating M3GAN could be another delightful way to make the genre more accessible. And if it happens, audiences will likely experience more quips and puns than they could prepare themselves for.

Chucky seasons 1-2 are streaming on Peacock and Shudder.
