Square Enix has revealed that it will be releasing a long-awaited update for Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition later this month, which will fix some of the game’s most notorious bugs. Chrono Cross is a popular role-playing game that was released in 1999 for the PlayStation console. Developed by Square Enix, the game is a sequel to the timeless Chrono Trigger. With the recent success of classic game remasters and remakes, many fans have been eagerly awaiting a Chrono Cross remaster for modern systems. It looked as if their wish would be granted when in April 2022, Square Enix launched Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, which was meant to be an improved edition of the original game. Featuring a bonus story, HD character graphics, higher-quality sound effects, toggleable enemy encounters, an enhanced screen resolution, and an automatic battle system, the remaster looked to be a worthy adaptation of the original Chrono Cross. Unfortunately, it turned out that the game was plagued by technical glitches, bugs, unstable framerates, and other such problems.RELATED:Square Enix Sales Are Down According to Company FinancialsAlmost one year later, Square Enix announced on Twitter that the Chrono Cross remaster will finally be getting a new major update this February. While it has not yet been given an official date, the update promises to bring a variety of changes such as framerate enhancements, modifications to Pip's growth system, and fixes for other miscellaneous bugs.

It will be interesting to see how the patch will affect Pip’s mechanics. Pip is a unique playable character, who can be unlocked by first freeing him from his cage located in the Viper Manor, and then recruiting him after boarding the S.S. Invincible. The most interesting thing about Pip is that he can keep evolving throughout the whole game. The Elements Pip utilizes in battle and the Elements that are used on him determine his next form. However, besides the fact that Pip’s evolutions can easily be botched by players, he is also the subject of an infamous bug that makes him lose the stats that he gained by evolving.

While the update sounds like excellent news for Chrono Cross’ fans, it begs the question of why it took so long to arrive. It seems like some fans are grateful for the fixes, while others are condemning the fact that the game received no other support until now, other than the day one patch. Hopefully, the new Chrono Cross remaster update will bring a new level of enjoyment to the game and satisfy the fans of the series.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
