For months, rumors have been swirling that a Chrono Cross remaster was in the works, and at the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, it was finally confirmed. Nintendo officially announced Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition for the Nintendo Switch with an April 7 release date. At the time, there was no mention of other versions of the game, but it's since been confirmed that the Chrono Cross remaster is indeed coming to more than just the Switch.

Square Enix has since clarified that Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is coming to platforms other than the Nintendo Switch come launch day on April 7. More specifically, fans can look forward to the Chrono Cross remaster dropping for PC on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One that day, though there doesn't seem to be native PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game in the works at this time.

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will be the same across all platforms, giving fans the chance to relive the JRPG classic with some modern enhancements. The visuals have been given an upgrade, plus there are new quality of life improvements that will let players experience the game their way. Like other remasters of classic Square Enix JRPGs, this includes the ability to completely turn off battles if players would rather just focus on the story. The soundtrack has also been improved, and this version of the game will even come with some extra content.

Hardcore Chrono Cross fans will know about Radical Dreamers, a text-based adventure that predated the actual game by a few years but is still connected to it narratively. The Chrono Cross remaster comes with Radical Dreamers in tow, so players will now get the full experience. Previously, Radical Dreamers was only available in Japan.

The Chrono Cross remaster isn't the full-blown Chrono Cross remake that was rumored to be in development, but it's certainly better than nothing. Before this, the only way to play Chrono Cross was on a PS1 or on the PS3 through the PlayStation Store. And with Sony once threatening to take down the PS3 PlayStation Store, there was always the risk of the game becoming significantly more difficult for fans to get their hands on. With the release of Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, that should no longer be a worry.

With the Chrono Cross remaster release date just a couple of months away, fans should learn more about the game sooner rather than later.
