Loki season 1's Blu-Ray release will include a new scene featuring Chris Hemsworth as a variant of Thor.

Loki carries on the eponymous character’s story after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Infinity War and sees the divine trickster saddled with helping to fix the timeline as penance for his crimes to the enigmatic Time Variance Agency, leading him on a quest fraught with danger and other versions of himself along the way. The show benefited from the MCU making a tonal shift with its new projects, allowing the antihero to shine and connect with the audience in new, deeper ways.

In the lead-up to Loki season 2, which had its release date confirmed alongside the new Disney Plus show Echo, it’s been revealed that the physical media release will contain special content for fans, including an interesting surprise in the form of Thor star Hemsworth making a cameo in one of the first season’s deleted scenes. The cameo role is as the mightiest form of his iconic character, Throg the frog, with the official description for the deleted scene via The Direct reading, "Mobius reviews some moments from Loki's timeline, in which Frog Thor makes an appearance during Loki's coronation."

Hemsworth, who has always maintained that he wanted to stay in the MCU after Thor: Love and Thunder, was revealed to have recorded voice lines for the character of Throg by Loki director Kate Herron. While the character did appear in Loki season 1 without speaking lines, Herron insisted it was great that they got Hemsworth to record new dialogue instead of recycling lines. Series composer Natalie Holt even composed a grand score for the Throg's deleted moment.

This scene will be a treat for fans, especially those wondering if Loki will ever meet Thor again in the MCU. While it may not be a proper on-screen reunion, a sprinkle of the on-screen chemistry that made fans give the otherwise wretched Loki a chance is sure to brighten anyone’s day.

The bonus content on the physical media release is yet more icing on the cake for Loki, with season 2 set to continue the story fans already fell in love with but with even higher stakes and more depth. This is good news for Marvel Studios, as with Loki season 2 already looking better than Secret Invasion, it might be a solid avenue to bounce back from a lackluster period.

Loki season 2 premieres on Disney Plus on October 6, 2023.
