Helping kick off the annual E3 2019 PC Gaming Show with a big announcement, Tripwire Interactive took to the stage to reveal Chivalry 2 from Torn Banner Studios. Sequel to the surprisingly successful Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Chivalry 2 will deliver on the original games unique and nuanced combat while also providing intuitive improvements to make the game more accessible and fast-paced. Of course, it wouldn't be Chivalry if it didn't also retain the brutal decapitation mechanics, shown in gory detail in Chivalry 2's announcement trailer.

In Chivalry 2's announcement trailer, viewers get a great look at how combat is escalating. Players will be sieging both villages and castles, attacking villagers on horseback, and taking the limbs off of enemies with the flick of the wrist. Tripwire described the rising brutality of Chivalry 2 as reliving "iconic moments of the era" which may be much, but likely captures the nature of the game very well.

The onset of Medieval combat "simulators," so to speak, has been sudden and impressive. Between the original Chivalry and the spiritual successor from Triterion, Mordhau, a growing and dedicated audience has been built around the genre. And between the two games, the studios will continue to challenge each other to deliver an experience that fans of the genre want. Which likely includes increasingly brutal and in-depth melee combat.

More information about Chivalry 2, its new features and improvements to combat, will be coming in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

While not unexpected, Tripwire Entertainment did confirm that Chivalry 2 would be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC at launch. The original Chilvary was launched on Steam, where it's currently available, so some frustration from the game's community is unfortunately expected. Given Chivalry 2's brutal announcement trailer and early details, however, plenty of the Chivalry fans are certain to be persuaded to follow the franchise to a new storefront.
