The wait for Chivalry 2 has been a long one, with the first game releasing nearly nine years ago. However, aspiring knights will have the opportunity to play the new game towards the beginning of June. Luckily, those that want to give it a shot before then will be able to do so soon.

Over on Torn Banner's website, the developer revealed that Chivalry 2's open beta will start in just over a week. Starting on May 27, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X players will be able to give the game a try ahead of launch. Kicking off at 11 am EDT, the open beta period will last until June 1. The beta will test Chivalry 2's cross-play features, meaning that players on each platform can face off against each other.

The open beta includes a bevy of content for players to take part in. The blog post highlights a few different battles, sieges, and game modes that players will be able to take part in during the open beta, including The Siege of Rudhelm, The Slaughter of Coxwell, free-for-all, full customization options, Duel Servers, 64/40-person lobbies, and more.

Console players should take note that, while PlayStation players won't require a PS Plus subscription to jump into the action, Xbox players will need to be subscribed to Xbox Live Gold in order to play the open beta. Additionally, PC players should keep in mind that the open-beta will take place through the Epic Game Store, rather than Steam or any other PC-based platform. It's a minor amount of red tape for pretty much every platform, but it still may affect the platform players choose to partake on.

Those interested in Chivalry 2 will be able to pre-load the open beta on May 26, the day before it goes live. This is the last opportunity that players will have to get their hands on the game before it launches, whether they want to use that time to simply get a taste of what's to come, or perhaps inform their buying decisions. While not quite a full week, the five-day period offers a decent opportunity for players to give the game a shot.

There's been something of a resurgence for the Medieval brawler genre as of late, with games like Chivalry 2 and Mordhau helping to revitalize the scene. It's possible that more games akin to these ones start to pop up if Chivalry 2 has staying power, which would certainly be a boon to those that are invested in the genre.

Chivalry 2 releases June 8 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
