When Chivalry 2 launched earlier this year as the sequel to Torn Banner's popular 2013 title Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, the long-awaited sequel saw immediate success. The game has already sold over a million copies as of August, just two months after its release, and was recently nominated for Best Action Game in the 2021 Game Awards. Fans and critics have praised the hack-and-slash gameplay of the highly-anticipated sequel and, now, Torn Banner is celebrating "Chivmas" with a free weekend to let even more fans get in on the medieval action.

Chivalry 2 was praised following its release for a number of upgrades to the original game's class system, adding in new sub-classes for the game's four main classes offering more build diversity for players looking to express their own playstyle. The improvements on the formula Chivalry: Medieval Warfare established in the series' opening title have seen the newest game in the franchise nominated for Best Action Game alongside games like Deathloop and Back 4 Blood. Now, Torn Banner is ringing in the holiday and The Game Awards season by letting fans experience the award nominee for free this weekend.

Torn Banner announced Wednesday through the official Chivalry Twitter account that Chivalry 2 will be holding a free weekend across all platforms starting at noon today, December 9th. Players will be able to experience Chivalry 2's hack-and-slash medieval action through the Game Awards weekend with the promotion running through Sunday, December 12th at 11:59 P.M. PT. The free weekend comes shortly after an update released earlier this week, dubbed the 'Merry Chivmas' update, added a plethora of holiday content to Chivalry 2.

The 'Merry Chivmas' update is the most recent pack of holiday-themed content Chivalry 2 has seen following its release. The Fight Knight Update released in October rang in the season with plenty of spooky Halloween-themed cosmetics and introduced new game modes with Last Man Standing and Brawl. 'Merry Chivmas' also brought several new non-holiday additions to Chivalry 2 with Brawl receiving a new map and a new weapon in the Warbow.

Torn Banner had previously quoted as referring to Chivalry 2 as "more bar fight than fencing match" and that chaotic nature comes across in the game's combat. Players can pick up and use anything they can find as a weapon with players using everything from chickens to banners as weapons. Chivalry 2's combat and polished gameplay has been popular enough with fans to earn nominations among the top of its year's class and the upcoming free weekend should serve to entice even more players to take up arms in the medieval action.

Chivalry 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
