Radiation is difficult to gear up against, seeping through every sort of material in the exclusion zone. Bullets on the other hand can be deflected by wearing the right armor and therefore improves the probability of living to fight another day in Chernobylite.

The companions that players find around the deserted lands of Chernobylite will be defenseless without the right gear. By crafting camouflage or heavy armor, these five allies will eventually have the best gear that suits their stats. This will avoid making any mistakes that will lead to players' companions becoming injured when trying to collect resources so that they may plan one final heist on the Chernobyl Power Plant.

Heavy Armored Mikhail

Chernobylite Gas Mask

Mikhail already has incredibly high stats, and by equipping him with a decently upgraded weapon these stats can be pushed even higher. Due to Mikhail's high Artifice skill, equipping him with Heavy Armor will not have as much of a penalty on his stats as it does with other companions. This means that players will still get the most benefit out of using Mikhail to collect food rations, a resource that will be desperately needed by the team.

Heavy armor will completely max out Mikhail's resistance, and coupling this with a decent shotgun will also mean his Combat stat will be maxed out too. When players send this powerful ally to scavenge now, Mikhail will have a better probability of collecting resources and not getting injured while out exploring the dangerous wilds.

Crafting Heavy Armor

Heavy Armour is a late-game piece of gear that can be crafted at the Industrial Furnace, the materials it requires are:

  • 4.00 Mushrooms
  • 4.00 Mechanical Parts
  • 4.00 Flammable Parts

Tactical Scavenger Olga

As an experienced dweller of the radiated lands surrounding Chernobyl, Olga has a variety of high-ranking stats that makes her useful for scavenging in the different areas of Chernobylite. Players will want to focus on improving her armor while not hindering her other skills so that she remains one of the best-ranking companions on the team. As plenty of the other armors can have drastic hindrances to key stats needed to scavenge certain resources, equipping her with the Tactical Armor will give Olga a better chance at surviving.

This means the skills that Olga best benefits from can remain unchanged, while still giving her a decent amount of Resistance that she can make the most of when collecting medicine in the exclusion zone. Collecting medicine supplies is important to keep the player and the rest of the team healthy after other unsuccessful scavenging missions.

Crafting Tactical Armor

Tactical Armor is another late-game piece of gear players can craft in the Industrial Furnace, this requires:

  • 2.00 Electronical Parts
  • 6.00 Electronical Parts
  • 4.00 Herbs

All-Rounded Armored Oliver

Chernobylite Oliver

Oliver is another character with high stats all around, including decent resistance and combat. This makes him a valuable resource to players from the beginning of their survival and therefore handing him armor that continues to play to his strengths while keeping him protected will help when he's out exploring. Equipping Oliver with the camouflage armor supplies the mercenary with only positives to his stats, therefore making him useful for beginner players to scavenge from any drop successfully.

Camouflage armor not only increases his Resistance by a decent amount but also improves the Artifice stat of Oliver so that he may be better used to collect rations. If that isn't enough of a reason to equip this armor onto him, then the camouflage coat he is seen wearing throughout the story is enough of a hint.

Crafting Camouflage Armor

This piece of gear can be crafted early into the game using the Sheet Metal Tools Bench that players can build in their base. The materials needed for this are:

  • 3.00 Mushrooms
  • 2.70 Herbs

Quick-Witted Sashko

Sashka stands in the base waiting to be healed by Igor in Chernobylite

Due to the quick and nimble nature of Sashko, equipping him with camouflage armor is the best way to keep his high-level Artifice stat, while also increasing Resistance to better survive in Chernobylite. After equipping the armor, his Resistance may not be as high as other companions on this list, but he'll be better defended and therefore less likely to be injured when returning from scavenging.

Heavy armor is another armor option for players if they worry about the resistance on Sashko, however, this gear can significantly affect the Artifice stat, therefore hindering his main expertise while scavenging.

Stealthy Tarakan

Chernobylite Tarakan

As a mysterious old man shown to be wearing camouflage armor and horns atop his head, it is of no surprise that the best armor to equip him with is also that gear. Similar to Oliver, Tarakan joins the team with an already high amount of Resistance, and therefore any other armor isn't necessary to equip him with.

Tarakan would also benefit from the increase to Artifice, as this is a stat that does need some attention from players if they expect him to successfully collect food drops. Equipping him instead with the common choice of tactical or heavy armor would be a waste of player resources and may be better suited to upgrade Tarakan's or other character's weapons.

Chernobylite is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
