  • The artist has already created an Electric-type Bulbasaur and is seeking suggestions from fans for the element of Squirtle to complete the trio.

A Pokemon fan has reimagined what Charmander would look like if it was an Ice-type instead of a Fire-type pocket monster. Giving the Gen 1 starter Pokemon a full-blown makeover, this fan's design concept will surely give Charmander fans something to think about, especially since the artist gave the Fire-type an element that is completely opposite its own.

A lot of creative Pokemon fan artists seem to like switching the elements of pocket creatures around when they produce their pieces. Even though The Pokemon Company has been doing this officially through different Pokemon forms, the franchise's community is fond of coming up with their own versions of what pocket creatures should look like with alternative types. With the base forms of the Kanto region starters being popular as they are, it is not surprising that a fan has chosen to remake Charmander as an Ice-type instead of a Fire-type.

On Reddit, user ProfAlmond shared an image of their Ice-type Pokemon Charmander fan art. The Pokemon still has the same lizard-like body shape and still stands on its hind legs, but the artist has completely revamped the pocket creature's looks to reflect its affinity to ice. Charmander's orange body has been faded into white and blue, with its iconic flame tail replaced by a beautiful frosted piece. ProfAlmond also gave the Pokemon an interesting hairstyle, completing the look with an adorable bow tie made out of ice. Even though Charmander's body and shape remain the same, its coloring and features clearly indicate the concept's change of element.

According to the artist, they have named their Ice-type Charmander "Chill-mander," stating in the description that the Pokemon will likely evolve into an Ice/Fairy-type that will destroy Dragon-types in battle. Fellow Pokemon fans immediately rode on ProfAlmond's head canon, giving the pocket creature some lore behind their change in element. The artist has already made an Electric-type Bulbasaur as part of their project, and they are looking to finally complete the trio with Squirtle. Asking the commenters on the Reddit thread, they crowdsourced what element they should give Squirtle, with many suggesting types such as Ground, Flying, Ghost, and more.

After making different types for the Gen 1 Kanto starters, the artist has not indicated if they will be doing the same with the other starter Pokemon from the different generations. Given how cute and detailed their pieces are, the Pokemon fan base will likely be interested in seeing which Pokemon and their alternate elements will be chosen for their next art piece.
