Chainsaw Man took the world by storm when it ran in Weekly Shonen Jump, and fans around the world are waiting anxiously for the anime adaptation to come out. Its all-out violence and non-stop action stood out from the usual shonen series that normally run in the magazine.

The plot of Chainsaw Man generally revolves around Devils, supernatural beasts that are more powerful depending on how much humans fear them. Devils can contract with humans to lend them their powers, possess corpses to become Fiends or merge with living humans to become Hybrids. Whether Devil, Fiend, or Hybrid, here are the strongest Devils in the Chainsaw Man series.

Updated May 30, 2024, by Danny Guan: The Chainsaw Man anime is still on hold, with the upcoming movie yet to even announce a set release date. Yet despite this, the manga has continued trucking along at a relatively regular pace. New devils have been introduced as a result, and previous devils have even returned in new forms and incarnations. Here are some more of the most powerful devils in Chainsaw Man, ranked by their strengths and abilities.

Anime-only fans should be aware that spoilers will be included for future seasons, presuming they are eventually created.

24 Octopus Devil

Yoshida's Simple Yet Effective Contractor

Octopus Devil with Yoshida

The Octopus Devil is one of many devils offering contracts to Public Safety, with Hirofumi Yoshida being the only contractor known in the Chainsaw Man series. Its full form has never been seen in the main series, but it is shown to have several massive tentacles whenever Yoshida invokes its powers.

The Octopus Devil has only shown its abilities rarely, and only through the contract between it and Yoshida. Yoshida has used the devil's power to summon tentacles to either attack or defend, as well as fire off a blast of ink to blind his foes. While the Octopus Devil has yet to prove itself as a powerful devil, it also has yet to truly show its full power.

23 Shark Devil

The Hyperactive Fish-Man

Chainsaw Man Shark Fiend

The Shark Devil appears in the Chainsaw Man series as the Shark Fiend, Beam, a Public Safety Devil Hunter from Division 4. A fan of Chainsaw Man, Beam is a reliable ally to Denji during the events of the Public Safety Saga.

As the Shark Fiend, Beam's main power is to transform parts of his body into those of a shark. He can even completely turn into a shark as well. He has various shark-based powers, such as the ability to swim through solid objects and an enhanced sense of smell.

22 Violence Devil

The Paragon Of Unleashed Power

Chainsaw Man Violence Fiend

The Violence Devil appears as the Violence Fiend Galgali, a member of Public Safety's Division 4. Due to his extreme power, Galgali is forced to wear a mask that constantly emits poison, which weakens him slightly.

As the Violence Fiend, Galgali's physical combat abilities are incredibly powerful, matching the power of true Devils even though he incarnates as a weaker Fiend. His specialty is hand-to-hand combat, and he can transform parts of his body into his true form for even more power.

21 Zombie Devil

The Infectious Plague

Chainsaw Man Zombie Devil

The Zombie Devil gains the distinction of being the first devil that Denji defeated as Chainsaw Man. Having made a contract with the yakuza that employed Denji to kill devils, the Zombie Devil has an extreme hatred for Devil Hunters and hopes to kill any he finds.

The Zombie Devil turns humans into zombies, even those that are contracted to receive his power. Humans who are bitten by zombies become zombies themselves, which can turn even one zombie into a deathly situation. While the Zombie Devil himself can do little in battle, his power to turn humans into zombies is incredibly potent.

20 Blood Devil

Master Of Blood Weaponry

Chainsaw Man Power

The Blood Devil appears in the Chainsaw Man manga as the Blood Fiend, Power, one of the main characters of the first part of Chainsaw Man. An eccentric woman with a lack of impulse control and a misanthropic personality, Power quickly becomes one of Denji's closest friends, stirring up a relationship that is sibling-like.

As the Blood Fiend, Power is able to control her blood and use it to create weapons such as scythes, hammers, spears, and more. She can store her blood as well and use it to create weapons without having to deplete her body's blood. Furthermore, while all Devils can drink blood to heal and restore their strength, Power can gain even more power from drinking other Devils' blood, and even resurrect herself from very small amounts of blood.

19 Flamethrower Devil

The Incendiary Leader Of The Church

Barem Bridge

The Flamethrower Devil appears fused with Barem Bridge as one of several weapon hybrids controlled by Makima. After she is killed, Barem reappears as a major antagonist in Part 2 as leader of the Chainsaw Man Church.

Unlike the other weapon hybrids, Barem has yet to assume his hybridized form in Part 2. However, he is seen using his powers during the fight against Denji in the climax of Part 1, showing off the flamethrower arms he dons when he transforms. His flames are incredibly powerful, strong enough to cause massive explosions. He also has the usual abilities of hybrids, including nigh immortality and healing by drinking blood.

18 Angel Devil

A Charitable Monster

Angel Devil

The Angel Devil (generally known as Angel) is quite an anomaly, as he does not show any hostility towards humans like other devils do. That being said, he is still a very dangerous and powerful devil that can siphon life span from humans with a single touch, whether he wants to or not.

Angel can also use the life span he has taken from humans and turn them into weapons, with their power increasing depending on how many years were used up. Angel can either use these weapons himself or give them to other people, and they are far more powerful than average weapons. While only briefly shown in the anime, the Angel Devil did debut toward the end of season 1, so non-manga readers got a taste of the character's potential.

17 Katana Devil

The Sword-Slinging Gangster

Katana Man in his transformed state

The Katana Devil, like several other Devils in Chainsaw Man, appears as a hybrid in the manga, having fused with the grandson of the mob boss Denji worked for at the beginning of the series. He goes unnamed while in this form, and is mostly known as the Katana Man.

The Katana Man functions much like Denji's hybrid form, with katana blades growing out of his hands and head. While his strength and endurance is also similar, Denji is ultimately victorious.

16 Ghost Devil

A Ghastly, Haunting Specter

Ghost Devil fully manifested

The Ghost Devil is the Devil contracted to the Devil Hunter Himeno. By sacrificing parts of her body, Himeno can use the Ghost Devil's body as if it were her own. Using the Ghost Devil is incredibly costly compared to other Devils due to its incredible powers.

The Ghost Devil's body is unique in that most things cannot even touch it, yet it is freely able to strike and attack whoever it likes. In addition, it can track beings based on the fear they feel, making it a terrifying enemy to have to fight.

15 Cosmos Devil

The Burden Of Infinite Knowledge

Santa Claus caught in Cosmos Devil's attack

The Cosmos Devil appears as the Cosmos Fiend Cosmo, one of Quanxi's many girlfriends. Cosmo initially seems useless in battle, and appears to only be capable of saying the world “Halloween” over and over again.

This puts them into a trance where they can only think about Halloween for the rest of their life, essentially leaving them in the same state as Cosmo herself.

14 Fire Devil

The Spread Of Unfurling Chaos

Yuko Transformed By Justice

Of the various Devils that have appeared in the second part of Chainsaw Man, the most elusive is the Fire Devil. Initially passing itself off as the Justice Devil and offering contracting to several people, including Asa's friend Yuko, the Fire Devil has yet to appear itself, opting to work in the shadows instead.

Despite having yet to show its true powers, the Fire Devil seems to bestow great powers on its contractors, allowing them to transform based on the power of their desires. Contractors have also been shown to be able to read minds and transform into monstrous forms using the contract's power, while others affected by the Devil's power and the influence of the Chainsaw Man church have turned into Chainsaw Man copies themselves. The Fire Devil's power grows the more people that are contracted to it, which is why it associates itself with the Church to begin with.

13 War Devil

The Battle-Hungry Warrior

Yoru the War Devil in Asa's body

The War Devil, also known as Yoru, appears to Asa Mitaka as she is getting killed, taking over her body and becoming a Fiend. However, Yoru allows Asa to continue living in her body, essentially sharing it with her.

As the War Fiend, Yoru has enhanced strength and speed, able to fight on par with Devils. Her special ability is to create weapons out of humans, making any random bypasser a deadly weapon. While the War Devil has yet to show her true powers, she has already proven to be quite powerful due to her status as one of the Four Horsemen.

12 Bomb Devil

Secret Agent From Another Country

Reze in her Hybrid Devil form

The initial appearance of the Bomb Devil is in its hybridized form, as a part of its body is fused with a young woman named Reze. As a woman trained by the USSR since childhood, Reze alone is a powerful combatant capable of taking down any human opponent.

11 Curse Devil

Difficult To Use, Powerful When Executed

Curse Devil appearing over Denji

The Curse Devil is one of many Devils that have contracts with the Devil Hunters, although it also has contracts outside of it. Although it usually hides away in the darkness, when it manifests the Curse Devil appears as a massive skeleton with two heads.

The Curse Devil's ability is rather convoluted, as the contractor is required to stab the target a number of times. Once the requisite number of stabs has been achieved, the Curse Devil will appear and mortally wound the target by biting into the target's neck with its heads.

10 Eternity Devil

The Unending, Ever-Growing Mass

The Eternity Devil flooding the hallway

The Eternity Devil is one of the first major Devils that Denji encounters as a Devil Hunter for Public Safety. It appears as a convulsing mass of flesh and body parts, with multiple mouths appearing all over its body.

The Eternity Devil's main power is the ability to loop a certain part of space, trapping whoever is inside. Time is stopped in this space, and the Eternity Devil can create an avatar to interact with and kill those stuck inside its space. While not the most powerful Devil, its ability can be quite bothersome.

9 Hell Devil

Deliverer Unto Misery

The Hell Devil reaching downwards

The Hell Devil is a Devil that has only a few appearances in the Chainsaw Man manga. It has multiple forms; its true form is as a flaming centaur with a mostly featureless head.

That alone is terrifying, as being in hell means existing in the same place as many of the most powerful devils in existence. While the Devil itself is not very powerful, it has a truly terrifying ability.

8 Crossbow Devil

The Greatest Devil Hunter

Quanxi in her hybrid Devil form

The Crossbow Devil exists in Chainsaw Man as another hybrid, fused with the legendary Devil Hunter Quanxi. Quanxi alone is incredibly powerful, being a master swordfighter with incredible martial arts skills.

In her hybrid form, Quanxi grows a crossbow on her forearms, which can be used to fire an innumerable amount of arrows at once. While the ability itself is not very strong, when it is combined with Quanxi's incredible skill and abilities, she is unstoppable. Quanxi is easily one of the strongest characters in Chainsaw Man, and one of Denji's most intimidating opponents.

7 Doll Devil

The Insidious Manipulator

Santa Claus as the Doll Devil's contractor

Despite not appearing in the series at all, the Doll Devil is one of the more terrifying Devils in Chainsaw Man. Its main contractor is Santa Claus, who used the Doll Devil's power to create numerous dolls around the world.

The dolls are controlled by Santa Claus and can turn other humans into dolls merely by touch. Santa Claus can even create perfect dolls that can make Devil contracts in her place and transfer her mind into any doll she has previously made. Only hybrids and fiends can resist her ability to create dolls, but the power of the Doll Devil remains horrifying still.

6 Gun Devil

Master Of Destruction

The Gun Devil in its true form

The Gun Devil exists as one of the greatest Devils known to man. Based primarily on the fear of guns, the Gun Devil struck fear in the hearts of people all over the world when it killed over a million people in only five minutes.

5 Falling Devil

The Connoisseur Of Tragedy

Falling Devil

The second Primal Devil to appear in the series, the Falling Devil is easily one of the most powerful Devils in existence. Based on the primal fear of falling, the Falling Devil has control over gravity, sending her victims flying into the sky.

The Falling Devil has a litany of other powers, including forcing her victims to relive past trauma and inverting the gravity of those who are heavily affected. She can also send those victims to hell directly, leaving them at the mercy of other devils.
