The Witcher fans have been waiting a long time for the reveal of a new mainline game in the franchise. Though there have been other games related to The Witcher universe such as the card game Gwent, and a TV adaptation of the original books has recently released its second season, it has been almost seven years since fans first got their hands on The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. With the third game completing Geralt's story though, many wondered if there even would be another Witcher open-world RPG.

Much to the surprise and joy of Witcher fans though, developer CD Projekt Red recently revealed a teaser image for the upcoming Witcher game. While many were labeling this game as The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red has since confirmed that the project will not be called The Witcher 4. At the moment, there's no official comment on what the game's title will be, as CD Projekt Red is mostly keeping fans in the dark in terms of details, only giving small teasers here and there.

Recently though, another interesting piece of information has dropped on the new Witcher title. The teaser image revealing the game showed a Witcher medallion buried in snow. It was clear to many that this medallion didn't belong to the School of the Wolf, and some believed it was a medallion of the School of the Cat. However, global community director Marcin Momot has confirmed that the medallion belongs to neither school, and is instead of the School of the Lynx.

The School of the Lynx is a lesser known Witcher school in comparison to that of the Wolf and Cat. Mostly, the School of the Lynx is linked to Witcher fan-fiction, meaning that the games will likely be straying even further from the original world of the books. Considering the tenuous relationship between the author of the Witcher books and the games, it might be safest for CD Projekt Red to stay clear of the source material. Some die-hard fans even consider the Witcher trilogy as fan-fiction.

School-Of-Lynx

With the School of the Cat mostly out of the picture then, it seems less likely that the story of the upcoming Witcher project will revolve around Ciri and where her journey takes her after The Witcher 3. As the teaser image was met with the tagline "A New Saga Begins," it could be highly likely that all previous characters from The Witcher games will be missing in these upcoming titles. Besides details about the story though, CD Projekt Red have also revealed some tidbits on the game's development cycle, including that it will try to avoid crunch with the new Witcher title.

The upcoming Witcher is currently in development.
