From the massive success of The Witcher 3 to the roller coaster journey of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has been making headlines regularly over the past few years. As fans eagerly await its upcoming projects like Witcher 4 and the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, CD Projekt Red has recently shared updates on what to expect.

One of the most anticipated titles from the company is the Witcher 4 project. Although not a lot of details have been shared about the game, the studio has stated that Witcher 4 will be utilizing Unreal Engine 5 for its development. The announcement comes off as slightly unusual considering the developer has its own game engine which it has already used for its major projects. However, CDPR explained its move to Unreal Engine 5, stating that the decision came down to the engine's focus on open-world game design rather than linear games.

While the next entry to The Witcher franchise is in development, CDPR has shared updates on what's on the horizon. In its Q1 2022 earnings presentation for the CDPR Group, the company mentions that the next-gen update for Witcher 3 will be hitting stores sometime within 2022, along with the launch of marketing efforts for Cyberpunk 2077 expansion in the same period. It also shared that currently the bulk of its development team is dedicated to the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion project followed by Witcher 4. Though with the expected timeline this would likely mean more development personnel may be deployed towards expediting Witcher 4 in the months to come.

The report also shared that the upcoming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Netflix series will be launching later this year. Although set in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077, the anime will be developed by Studio Trigger as a standalone series, complete with new characters and a new story. Back when the announcement was made, the show's producer Saya Elder had mentioned that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners would serve as a "great gateway for newcomers" to explore Cyberpunk 2077 and the cyberpunk genre as a whole.

Overall, this year is shaping up to be a busy one for the Polish company. The year started off with CD Projekt Red launching the next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077 in February. Now, with the Netflix series, the Witcher 3 next-gen update, and marketing for Cyberpunk 2077 DLC all on the way, 2022 looks interesting for fans of both franchises. Whether the upcoming content will live up to expectations, only time will tell.

The next game in The Witcher series, Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, and next-gen update for Witcher 3 are currently in development.
